How To Program The Baofeng UV-5R For Off-Roading, Hiking, Airsoft, Using The Keypad

Publicado 2020-07-09
-- This is a step-by-step guide on how to setup and configure your Baofeng UV-5R, Baofeng BF-F8HP, and any similar model Baofeng radios to monitor/listen to GMRS radios using simplex mode for use while hiking, airsoft, paintball, off-road, etc. A ham license is not required to listen to or transmit on GMRS or other frequencies, but be aware that the Baofeng UV-5R is not FCC Part 95E compliant for transmitting on GMRS or FRS frequencies so if you don't already have a radio, make sure you get one that is fully FCC "accepted" for use on GMRS channels.

As a guy who has been a Ham operator for 5 years now, have to laugh when you talk about how a lot of Ham guys hate those radios. Not all do! Love them or hate them, I believe they are responsible for a lot of the new growth we are seeing in the hobby today. Not everyone wants to spend $200 - $300 on a radio if they aren’t sure yet about getting into the hobby. These cheap radios provide a low cost way for people to listen in and see what the hobby is about. Just my two cents, enjoyed your video!
  • I watched a few of other people’s videos and just gave up , just to confusing. I stumbled across your video and wow so so helpful, thank you

This is the calmest I've seen you 😂😂😂
  • I have learned more in a couple hours watching your videos and day drinking than years of "pretending" to study for my license.

Yup most people don't want to be a ham. They just want decent range communication.

1:39 On the contrary, I was actually enticed into Ham radio and passing the exam BECAUSE of these cheap Baofeng radios. I think they are the best thing to happen to Ham radio. They may not be as fancy as other more expensive units but you can't beat the value. No hate here. They are REALLY good radios for the money. I would recommend them to anyone. Maybe they will entice you to take the exam and get more into the hobby like me.

Caution: the Baofeng is a gateway drug. Once you find out what all it can do you’ll want to buy more sophisticated HTs.

First of all, thank you. I’ve been looking into a comms setup for awhile now and it’s completely and honestly just annoying. This is the first video I’ve watched that was clear, concise, and actually gave me an answer. Thank you sir!

Lol, I just found your channel this week and have been digging through the archives. This is the first video I've seen from before you developed your current video style. So positive and bright. Who hurt you? Keep up the great work. I appreciate all of the great info and the humor.

Love the simplistic explanation you give. You don't get muddied in the weeds on these things. 👍

I ordered one of these exactly for the reason you describe regarding communication on off-road trails, BUT because it has the VHF band, I can also use it to call my boat. Thanks again for a great review!

  • I’m very new to HAM and I’m trying to learn. Seems like there is a lot of people that are not very nice in comments and FB groups. Thank you for being very patient and polite.

  • Wow dude! Classic mode! I’ve watched all of your recent GMRS videos. My daughter just bought a jeep…. And we are doing a rebuild as she works toward her license so suddenly all of the keep videos are relevant too. I went crazy on GMRS radios and now you are going to cost me some serious money! Great vids and cool to see the evolution
