Are your magazines marked? It really doesn't matter, until it does... Pistol or Rifle magazines eventually give up the ghost. And when they do, they cause weapon malfunctions. It is important have your magazines marked in order to quickly isolate the problem and replace that magazine.

Typically, I use just sharpies. For example, National Geographic usually has decently wide yellow borders to mark on. Popular Mechanics usually has monochromatic backgrounds for its cover picture, so I usually go for a corner on there.

"Why do we mark our mags? To tell them apart." No greater advise has been given.
  • I like using numbers and a stencil, I have a tinker bell and a rainbow from hobby lobby.
  • Great tip. Simple, easy way to track mags. ( The Chief says : " Simple is ALWAYS better" ) !
  • I never thought of marking them for that reason. I do mark my 6.5 Grendel mags so people other than myself don't stick them in the wrong guns though.

Once got a whole case of unopened M4/M16/STANAG mags. They were obsolete when the new brown mags came out. Best ever. Now I will never run out.

Agreed 100 percent. As a student of the gun and Firearms instructor, I find failure points and training mags and it's easy to eliminate and replace. I will say that Magpul handgun magazines are tough as hell. Glock factory, Not so much.

I never knew what adding color was for, I’ve just always rattle canned the base plates of all mine caution yellow to A: prevent mixing up mine with others when i have a good amount of people out with me, and B: to find them easier after changing them on the move, only because of the grass is sometimes high where I go. Nice and bright, just easier to find fast on the walk back haha. Cool info tho.

Everyone has their own method. I use tape on my AK mags from time to time.
