“I’m from Baghdad, thank you for highlighting this great city. I hope you get to visit Baghdad someday.”

The friendship of Charlemane and the Abassid caliphe makes you realize, that despite in the ancient world, due to a lack of technology, distances being 'much greater' than they are today, people were still very interconnected and surprisingly friendly with one another, despite never coming face to face.
  • Abbasid Scholar Khateeb Al Baghdadi writes: "There is nothing weaker than a scholar whom people abandoned due to the corruption of his ways, and an ignorant person whose ignorance people accepted because they looked at his outward worship"

When Hulagu entered Baghdad, he issued a chilling warning to the Christians residing in the city: "Lock yourselves inside your church and do not venture out." The mere thought of the terror they must have experienced is unimaginable.

This could be it's own series. How about a documentary about the city of Florence at the height of renaissance?
  • @ericponce8740
A movie needs to be made about this tragic event in history.

You should add a final comment about how the Americans rained destruction on Baghdad while bringing 'freedom' to Iraq in the two Gulf Wars. Their final invasion led to the looting of the National Museum of Iraq which housed many treasures and cultural artifacts. Also, the invasion led to large-scale damage to the city, including the destruction of the zoo, massive sanitation problems, and transportation problems after the subway closed and the Americans divided the city up into Green Zones and such. It's funny how American wars to bring peace and freedom usually end up in death, destruction, and misery for those they are supposed to be helping.

Baghdadadi this video makes me so happy and also so Sad to see what once one of the greatest city in history completely destroyed in every except possible
  • @derrengui
The only city that could somehow compete with Abassid Baghdad at the time was Umayyad Cordoba That'd be a nice video too
  • @nomadichorseman
One is left to wonder how much more advanced society would be had the Mongols not burned the House of Wisdom to the ground... as someone who is always curious to learn more, this saddens me that they destroyed books with no regard to what knowledge they might have held.
  • As someone from Iraq thank you so much for doing a vid on our greatest city Baghdad isn't as great as it was before but it's still worth a trip I've been there once and it's amazing
  • @jamesforreal
It kind of breaks my heart that I was there in Baghdad, and didn't really see or know about any of this. Baghdad was a city of light, much like Rome is today. Thanks for the video.
  • @ronjohnson6916
Ooh cool. A subject I've always wanted to know more about.
  • @muhib8304

  • @Vllili
Baghdad was a paradise for scholars ✨✨ The Arab Islamic civilization ended very tragically💔💔
  • An incredible miracle Baghdad still stands today. Especially given how many rise and falls, high points and low points the city has seen throughout its rich history!
