I love this. I love this so much because it really does get at the core of the message I was trying to send. The story of sheer faith and perseverance through what seems bleak and “the end of the world” is something I felt wasn’t explored enough in this type of horror, and I love that this is the takeaway. The story of war and PTSD that can cripple someone or make them stronger.. And then a lot of inspiration from old obscure cursed internet videos that scared me as a child.. but the core being that no matter how evil some monster or prison camp guard is, the human spirit will persevere if it really wants to. Thanks so much to Lee and others at FT. Dream come true

Don’t forget the Fried One, the Blended One, and the Diced One. There’s also the Baked One, but we don’t talk about it
  • The boiled one looks like something a 5 year old would draw and then proudly show to their parents with pure joy and happiness as the parents look at the picture in horror and pretend like it's adorable

"Locked-in syndrome" might just be the funniest sounding, real condition of all time

I love how the newer generations of analog horror are specifically dealing with forgiveness and empathy, like how The Man In The Suit shows how Japan actually has moved on from their nuclear trauma of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and now with The Boiled One Phenomenon where an actual real life soldier forgives their torturer from their past. It's so wholesome and pure, even though packed with terrifying visuals. And to quote Doctornowhere, the human spirit will persevere if it really wants to. Such a good message! It's so good and I hope all these young creators succeed. Thank you to Team Theorist for making an episode of this!!

The boiled one genuinely creeped my out the first time which analog horror hasn't done in a bit

We don't talk about the oiled one...

Mutsuhiro Watanabe's spirit being behind the Boiled One makes a lot of sense, and it's no surprise someone as vile as himself would return and continuously want to cause fear and pain and terror. He was an unhinged sadist in real life, he'd randomly physically attack and torture American POWs. Sometimes he'd burn letters/pictures of their loved ones or falsely tell them their loved ones are dead just to see their reactions. Sometimes he'd act friendly and kind and give them gifts only to put them on edge when he'd randomly turn violent and antagonistic again. He also died a coward as Zamperini forgave him, so it makes sense for him to come back as this evil entity. His spirit thrived on agony and fear and power.

Didn't know PHEN-228 was chill like that
  • The message that forgiveness is the best way to overcome hate and pain is a lesson you might not expect in analog horror, but maybe that makes the message ever more important.

Honestly, I think the reason why I (and so many others) love The Boiled One Phenomenon so much is because of it’s core message. Remember folks, grief does not shrink or ‘go away’ with time, but rather, life grows around that grief, and it is a journey, not a place to stay :). I think that Zamperini forgiving this horrid, mangled mess that is now Watanabe and still going ‘I forgive you’ is such a befitting and amazing defeat. Uhhh something something Boiled One vs The Indomitable Human Spirit

The connections drawn to biblical lore, World War II, and real-world incidents, are all thought-provoking. The interpretation of forgiveness as the ultimate weapon is quite impressive.

I got all the Revelations references, but I had no idea about Zamperini's story. Truely a blessed man and a wonderful story
  • @KaraDUN
This series scared me so much more than the other analogue horrors for some reason, maybe because I already always hated the dark 😭Not even the main guy, but the section where they said "There's no one behind you when you turn off the lights" or something like that, now I can't stop thinking about it

I feel like the switch from Matthew to everyone else was pulled off so well.

Zamperini was so right about forgiveness. When I was a child I was abused by my stepfather (now dead). Through my teenage years I dealt with the trauma and suffered from ptsd and would have anxiety attacks from being to close to people. Even my own mother and grandmother couldn’t touch or I’d get nauseous. While I also found god, forgiveness was a huge part of my healing. Me and my brother now have a vow to not speak badly of our past stepfather as he had many good moments, and when we got older we learned that he was a deeply hurt man himself. Forgiveness isn’t just for the other person it’s for you too.
