Today we got the long awaited second episode of the amazing digital circus. I loved the pilot and it ended up being the most popular indie animated show of all time. In this video i’ll give a quick synopsis, and then talk about the things i liked and disliked about it and whether or not it lives up to the hype.

The way gummigoo got removed reminds me of sir Pentious getting one shot by adam 💀

(Caine hands over pipe to bubble) “No thanks I’m trying to quit”💀def my fav part 😂

I don't think we are supposed to feel sorry for Kaufmo in his funeral, we are supposed to feel emotional about Pomni understanding how much the people of The Circus care for eachother and that she isn't alone there.

The fact they showed us a really wholesome cute bonding moment just to kill gummigoo right after😭😭😭

Here’s the thing about the ending funeral, the point of it was not for the audience to grieve for the clown (I already forgot his name), the point was to use the funeral setting for Pomni to realise that if she does get abstracted, people will care. In the beginning of the episode as she falls in her nightmare, dream Jax & Ragatha (and Cane) pretty much dismissed her. Making this kind of an arc for Pomni.

I thought the episode was great! I’m still mourning Gummy Goo’s death because I absolutely loved him :(

I love how Gummigoo just gets snapped into confetti by Caine. It was just so sudden and I was not expecting it.

I love how we get like 0.2 seconds of Jax angst (when he’s sad for kaufmo)

I actually think we DID get to spend enough time with gummigoo to build a connection with him. I was actually excited to later see the interactions between this NPC with the characters. I REALLY hope we get to somehow see him again.

Something you don’t seem to understand is that Gummigoo’s revelation was to give Pomni a reflection of her own situation, and Kaufmo’s funeral was meant to put her fears to rest. These were done to develop Pomni and no one else.

I've heard a lot of people mention the thing about wanting to hear what the cast said in Kaufmo's funeral, but I actually think not hearing them has a lot of meaning behind it. The scene was never meant to be about Kaufmo, it (like the episode) was about Pomni coming to understand that even if the situation they're all in is kinda shitty, what's important is the bonds they form. For that reason, I think it's better that we don't hear the eulogies and just focus on seeing Pomni's emotional journey at that moment. It would've been distracting, and there isn't much of a point to over-focusing on a character we'll probably never see again

Totally don't agree with Gummy's death not being impactful. I was really hopeful he was going to be around, and found him to be introduced super well. I totally connected with him. His sudden death makes a really good point towards the episode's theme as well as setting up lots of character and world building. Edit: also don't agree at all with the idea that Pomni and Gummigoo's time in the test chamber should've been cut quicker. Didn't you want character development and getting to know characters? Visually it wasn't as impactful, sure, but there were lots of bone-chillingly great moments down there, and the scene where they fly up is genuinely super well handled both musically, visually and thematically. Also, here's the thing about Kaufmo's funeral: it's not about Kaufmo. We can't pretend the audience is going to connect with a side character who was abstracted for all the duration of the show, but through seeing how the people in the circus actually care about each other aside from playing Caine's dumb games, Pomni understands that the people around her actually care for her, and will remember her. Trying to befriend a confused npc, seeing them get killed before your eyes, and realizing that the people around you are as confused and caring as you thought they weren't seems like quite a solid second episode to lead into a more trusting and relatable set of characters. Like, it's both a learning experience for Pomni AND the viewer, where we get to understand the characters without any need to dump lore so early on.

I’m obsessed with the way they’re tackling depersonalisation & existential dread. Feels like a very pertinent theme in our current times of ✨ chaos ✨

am I the only one that disagrees I thought this episode was a huge step in quality from the pilot

-I actually loved Pomni and Gummigoo's conversation. It was sincere, honest, and surprisingly heartfelt. I love it when a scene takes its time to let the characters express themselves. We got to know more about Pomni as a character, and how she feels towards others. It felt reminiscent of Buzz and Woody's conversation, in the first Toy Story film, once Buzz realized he was a toy. -I think the glitching was meant to be "Chekov's Gun". It was introduce in the first act so it could be used towards the end (i.e. using the glitch to get launch out of the chasm). -I don't think Gummigoo was "killed" per say, but more "teleported back" to his home world. His copy was saved after all, and Ragatha did say that they might see him again in the near future. -It was nice seeing Pomni growing as a character. She realized that she's among friends in the this crazy place known as the Digital Circus, and even used her experience to help Gummigoo. -It was funny seeing Jax being an agent of chaos, and getting bummed once nothing exciting happened until they left. He's what you call "likably awful". -Kaufmo's funeral, while brief, really does show that the characters do mourn their friends once they get abstracted. Their body languages and expressions really gave a sense of how much he meant to them (even if we, as the audience, didn't get to). Overall, I thought it was a VERY solid episode. It had more heart and sincerity compared to the pilot, and that was very refreshing to me.
