I agree with the Tau assessment. I have a friend that picked them as their first army and it hindered their growth as a player since they never practiced the combat step.
  • I ended up with Death Guard as my first army but I'm looking at the sisters next.
  • @uri2854
I play tau, grey knights and votann for 40k and ogors and skaven in aos! I also have a small "knights army" to ally with my grey knights

I started playing 40K back in the Rogue Trader days (1992), when there really wasn't much to choose from and miniatures weren't nearly as expensive; so perhaps my perspective is a bit skewed. Regardless, over those 32+ years, this is the order of armies I've built and played: 1. Space Marines (1992) 2. Eldar (1993) 3. Imperial Guard (1996) 4. Tau (2006) 5. Orks (2022) IMHO, the most flexible army are my Eldar. However, they were very difficult to collect and paint.
  • scrolled the video bar and didn't see black templars or space marines and am ok with this, proceeds to watch video.

Tau’s my first army and it sounds like you don’t know how Tau plays lol. This is misleading. Yes they are difficult to start with, but that’s because they are just a complex faction that doesn’t just use raw strength like most factions. Instead of stat lines and keywords, you have to synergies your units together to create “combos” in your plays that get the job done. Tau is very much a movement and board-control based gameplay style. You learn melee very quickly, because you quickly realize how punishing it is to be hit by. But I constantly nuisance charge with battlesuits, infantry when it’s appropriate, and certain vehicles for tank shock. Tau’s just hard to start out with because it’s very punishing while you’re learning what’s essentially a more complicated game than what pretty much every other faction is playing
  • Too late, I started with the Adeptus Mechanicus because they cool as folk. If i had the choice i wouldnt be entirely made of meat anymore. 7k points deep now. XD I also have knights, space marines, tyranids and tau :D

🤷 I am new to Warhammer and just bought two grey knight combat patrols just to paint as I've never painted miniatures before but I liked their look. So if they update them I'll probably either sell them or just build a display for them and then try to save up for the new ones😅

I'm gonna be pissed if Grey Knights aren't redone next year. I wanna collect them and I have the old boarding patrol but I can't commit if they're gonna be redone in 2025. Especially after the agents of the imperium tie in.
  • @Tostaky777
Soon is to be retired : it is maybe wrong but this is why I did not buy a landraider and I use just repulsors. My problem is : it is vey easy to know with space marine, I just buy primaris model. However for tyranid for example, I don't know if a a model is about to be legend.
  • I'm curious - which faction match-ups make fir the longest games, and which make the shortest, quickest games? I assume the big horde factions take a bit longer, but just curious.
  • As a White Scar players with 2600pts gone l agree about the ax thing. And my army was all bikes save for two sniper scout units
  • @HippoEnjoyer
Arguably, The T’au are probably a bit better to start with now that they have the big Kroot range. I hear they can do decent melee.
  • New rules for Admech hit a couple of weeks ago in the 2024 July update - they are in a way better place now, even if they aren’t completely fixed and still feel hoardy for my liking.
  • @gmofkings
I started with grey knights due to loving there lore, I technically started in 9th but have only truly played tenth. I can tell you they play well and the models are fine, I hope the range refresh happens soon but know it might take a while
  • @drgnsenpai
Picked guard as my first army lol. Any tips/advice on moving units quicker??
  • Have just been getting back into the hobby after 20 years.... Picked up some votann infantry mainly to practice my painting with the possibility of building an army if i vibe with them. Keep finding myself drawn to grey knights though haha even if its just a matter of time before they get an update. Think i will just follow my enthusiasm rather than build an army i am not 100% stoked on. Worst case is i should be decent at painting grey knights by the time the new models have arrived .
  • @cmeade82
A honorable to Necrons. I love there look and lore kinda a coo. But as a beginner in modeling I keep breaking the damn things. I think I have one Necron Warrior left and that is because its still on the spure
