Just found your channel, subbed! Always like some good Doom Content Dwango...holy crap I haven't heard that in a very long time. I believe I discovered it shortly before the source was released and ended up switching to Doom Connector for online play. Still though...that was 20 or so years ago. I definitely feel older.

I just wanna point out, as I think this is a very interesting fact about DOOM II and I just don't see anybody bring it up, like, ever: while it reused loads of assets from the original game, right down to the very behaviours of the enemies it was recycling, it never once reuses any of the first game's music. Its soundtrack is the one asset "category" so to speak that is 100% original.

Sometimes I wonder what the other episodes of DOOM and DOOM2 would look like if Romero had been responsible for the layout and design of everything. I can replay Knee Deep in the Dead endlessly, never really get bored of it. But after that, I don't really enjoy DOOM. The DWANGO section was cool, I totally forgot I'd even played on that modified map (on dial-up, in the 90s) until I saw it again. Dial-up "local" area gaming was insane. It was basically what broadband Internet was (ping time), years ahead of its time.

Your argument that you shouldn't need to find secrets kinda falls flat for 2 reasons. 1. You're playing on ultra violence (that wasn't intended for beginners who didn't find secrets) 2. Pistol starting isn't the intended play progression. Also Pain Elementals are super easy if you do 2 things 1. Stay out of their line of sight as much as possible so they don't attack. (Camp and door fight when they're supposed by others and/or can fly above you) 2. Stand in their face to prevent lost souls from spawning at all. (Do that and they can't harm you in any way) Also crowd them as they die to keep some of the 3 from spawning. In conclusion, you're handicapping yourself and (with all due respect) aren't at the skill level or experienced enough to be doing that yet.

99% of the people watching dont care if the audio was mixed for headphones or speakers. im using speakers and dont care, dont notice anything wrong. you are over-thinking it
