Ahead of a grand opening ceremony along with the river Seine to mark the formal launch of the global sporting spectacular, France’s high-speed train network was hit by multiple arson and sabotage. The attack disrupted travel before the Paris Olympics’ Opening Ceremony. Train company SNCF described the attack as a major attempt to cripple their services, leading to numerous train cancellations and diversions. Travellers were advised to postpone their trips and avoid the stations.
