Olympic ceremony's 'Last Supper' Sketch Never Meant To Disrespect, Says Paris 2024 | N18G

PARIS, July 28 (Reuters) - Paris 2024 organisers apologised on Sunday to Catholics and other Christian groups angered by a kitsch tableau in the Olympic Games opening ceremony that appeared to parody Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper" painting.

  • We are sorry if someone was offended isn't an apology, it is another insult
  • @Ganesh_Sh
I'm a non Christian and I'm offended at how atrocious that performance was. It was an insult to all the athletes who worked hard for the sport. I'd recommend all Christians or anyone from a respectable religion to NOT support the Paris Olympics financially in any way. Money is the best feedback mechanism.

I will not watch any of the Olympics and I hope they lose all their sponsors.

I am an atheist and this kind of mockery should never be allowed!
  • @quito787
Boycott the Olympics. Don’t watch it. Let’s the sponsors get pissed at the IOC.
  • @stevejh69
Why are countries NOT boycotting these DISGUSTING games! Making the excuse "Afterwards" that is was diversity or inclusion, is PATHETIC! france should NEVER be permitted to host the games EVER again!
  • "In France we are allowed artistic expression. In France we have a lot of freedom..." Yeah, but the Olympics is for the world, not just France. The Olympics is a neutral space for all nations, religions, political systems. It's not the place for you to express yourself. It's a place for you to put the best of your country's culture on display in spectacular fashion. Keep religion and politics out of it. And NOBODY'S sexuality should be on display-- gay, straight, or whatever. Just put on a damn show.
  • The worst opening in history of Olympics. Intentionally done to destroy core principles of beauty.

This is an apology??? Disgusting… all over… boycott this horrible event…
  • @LorenzoMenakaya
The French have kept thinking they're superior to the rest of the world, but that's not true at all. This obnoxious idea of an apology shows how small minded they can be.
  • @Manah247
How is this even an apology, this is more like telling us to accept their ideas.
  • Shame on Paris, shame on France and shame on French for allowing this crime to happen.
  • @esl39
That is not an apology. That is an excuse. The organizers must resign.
  • @DioAngys
"Sorry that you were offended" is not an apology, lady. Hypocrites.
  • It's intentional. Every Christian should boycott the Paris Olympics! Nonsense!!!!!!
  • This ceremony was being presented to the world. How about respect for your global audience?
  • @linarod461
So, to be inclusive is to highlight one group and ignore the rest?
  • @auspicious6703
There was clearly an intention to disrespect unless they are sooo out of touch with reality that they didn’t realise this would be offensive, in which case I can’t believe anyone can be that stupid
