PROS & CONS of the Fiskars Xact Weed Puller | Lawn Gardening Tool Review | The Carpenter's Daughter

Published 2022-04-15
After watching Stuart from Proper DIY scarify his lawn, I was mesmerised by his Fiskars Xact stand up weed puller... so much so, we bought one for my mother in law, then I wanted one too 😂

*You can watch his video here:    • The Step by Step Guide to Scarifying ...

So, if you've never seen one before, I've put a hands on review together on how we got on with it in time for the Easter weekend if you want to do any lawn care and maintenance.

I talk about the pros and cons for you to make up your own judgement - and think quite frankly, the sound of weed pulling would make a great ASMR video(!)

Nice one Vikkie! It's definitely not perfect but the best I've come across so far. These things get more important the older you get!
  • @mofaz3475
Bought one a few years ago and it's still by far my favourite gardening tool. It's a lifesaver for large, thorny weeds as you don't need to get your hands anywhere near them.

Weeding is only phase 1 but here is the breakdown for Sept - Oct lawn maintenance. 1. Wait until the ground has loosened especially after a hot dry summer (a week's rain should do it) 2. Pull up weeds (leave holes for now) 3. Mow as low as possible 4. Scarify lawn to de-thatch (use a rake or power scarifier) 5. Aerate 6. Seed and top dress 7. Feed 4.
  • I've had one of the Fiskars for years now, it's great for just normal weeding of borders especially as I have a bad back
  • I just bought one of these a couple weeks ago ... and I have to say I love it!! It does leave some holes in the yard. But for my aching 55+ back, its a back saver!! Makes weeding fun, tbh.

I've had one for years, I use it to take big weeds out, the big lawn I have will never pass as a golf course so it does the job for me🤓👍
  • @andyedwards6124
I watched that same proper diy video and thought, I'm going to buy one of those! Then I completely forgot about it until today. Thanks for the reminder, I just ordered one
  • @kerryfoster1
YES brilliant. I recently FOUND one of these in an overgrown garden. Will clear your garden of weeds though it may leave tap roots in place. No bending, digging, puffing and panting. There are a few on the market! These are great for dandelions.
  • @R1chardH
I finally got one after they started to take over my grass. It was £35 but really worth it.
  • OK this looks like something we absolutely must try .. our weeds are a real issue I need to let some of my Dandelions seed ... (Resin projects) but after that ... they can go to weed heaven !
  • You've inspired me. I had one of those old lever hand tools for getting stuff out but this looks so much better. So I used your affiliate link and have one on the way now

Thanks for this, Vikkie - I've been looking at one of these as a potential purchase - you've given me food for thought 👍 Loved the turn-taking with hubby...the novelty value will plummet soon enough😉👍👍. As ever, great video - thanks, Vikkie.
  • @justintemp
Apt timing as I was looking at this too. Props to proper diy
  • @hadyanth
Best thing I've ever bought for the garden, by far.
  • @michaelthom6005
I watched the proper DIY video and bought one of these off the back of it. I’m very impressed with it👍
  • Just looks so satisfying - especially getting the long root out. Surely after a few rounds they'll be gone for good and MUCH cheaper than a gym membership.
  • @MrErpman
Got this for my wife for Valentines Day so she can remove the weeds from our yard. She is now "helping" maintain our yard.
  • @Mikidy303
Hi Vikkie, this is no gimmick tool. I have a similar type tool and it has made a real difference. It just takes a while for all the baby dandelions to pop their heads out. Good luck and quick healing with the jumper's knee. It's never fun.
  • Bought 1 after watching this collecting tomorrow can’t wait 😝
