Garry's Mod - False Nintendo DMCA Claims: The Story

Remember everyone, spread the tweets and video far and wide, get people talking, show them everything this video is showing! We CANNOT let this stuff slip under the radar. I've been in this community far too long to just let this stuff go, to quote myself, i rather die standing than live kneeling, and you all need to do the same. Don't. Let. Peters. Win!

Since Aaron Peters is pretending to be a representative of Nintendo of America, i think someone should inform Nintendo about this

It honestly doesn’t surprise me that this “Aaron Peter” possibly also DMs innocent people who use the deleted Nintendo models for GMOD with cruel and hurtful messages just to make himself higher above others.

This Aaron Peter dude is the epitome of "I hate everything because I don't have anything, so I'll take everything away from other people!". What a loser.

all this guy is doing is causing chaos. framing nintendo, making more people hate nintendo fans in general, taking away content from gmod users, and most importantly causing hate to both sides.

By this point, I hope Nintendo gives Aaron Peters the Gary Bowser Treatment.

Hi, guy from the Fraymakers community here. Just found this. I don't know the exact details of the GMod side of this, but I'd like to give an update on our current situation. First, there was a false DMCA claim against a mod of Paper Mario. This claim was shoddy, and when the mod's creator reached out to Steam, Valve's team seemed to believe the mod was somehow related to GMod. After reporting the false DMCA claim to Steam, a wave of DMCA takedowns occurred. After a long time investigating these, our game's developers told us that many of these claims appeared to be real DMCAs by Nintendo. Our belief is that Steam notified Nintendo, who then decided to file real claims. It's also important to note, that these "real" claims also came from an Aaron Peters. This does NOT mean that DMCA takedowns from Aaron Peters are legitimate, but that they have potential to be. It is also clear that people are using that name for fictitious DMCAs. I also apologize as I believe attention was brought to GMod by the first, fake DMCA Fraymakers received, and we were very open about it, and how Steam handled it, including the strange allusions to GMod. This seemed to occur before the takedowns started in GMod. I also want to make an important note regarding Pokemon content: Nintendo does not own Pokemon. Nintendo cannot file a DMCA for Pokemon content. That is the right of The Pokemon Company International. While I want to say "some of Aaron Peters DMCAs appear to be legitimate" I will stress that TPCI owns Pokemon, and any DMCA allegedly from Nintendo on Pokemon content IS fake. Anyways, I have no knowledge on how this has further developed in the GMod community, but have noticed a recent statement about Nintendo related mods being taken down.

Hey, found out some of the SMG4 fan-made models are getting DMCA from Aaron Peters too. This might be affecting the show too since they used them in plenty of their videos.

If Nintendo had made an official Garry's Mod workshop, and this troll filed the false DMCA's against them, thinking it was not actually Nintendo, then they would be in trouble.

False claims, That sounds familiar

First we get drama from Kaiju Universe getting taken down from Roblox from a DMCA request from Toho as Kaiju Universe’s creators didn’t have the license for Toho’s kaiju in that moment, and now this? I can tell that Aaron Peters is a complete Karen. Even though I don’t like NSFW art, I wouldn’t go as far as DMCA-ing all fanart of Nintendo characters, including those that aren’t NSFW.
