  • Girl! I was natural for 7 years. My hair was long. Healthy. Got compliments. This was before natural was a thing. I relaxed my hair and it fell tf out. I was ill. I went back natural and my hair is back to what it was before. Your hair is beautiful. ❤

You need to do 2 things every 1-2weeks: 1. Use Olaplex or Redken Bond treatment to repair the broken bonds from chemical treatments. 2. Protein to strengthen the hair from the breakage.
  • @bembeleza16
Avoid too much heat. Heatless options will help avoid breakage.

One thing I would say about retaining length. Go to the salon. When I used to relax my hair myself I would relax it every 3 months. When I started going to the salon I would twice a year. The back breaking may be because you left the relaxer on longer in some areas more than others. Going to the salon can get an equal and even distribution of the relaxer. Good luck girl
  • I think the thing we look for in hair can be convenience and simple maintenance but the harsh truth and reality for us woman of colour is that no matter if your hair is relaxed or natural it will still require a lot of work. Relaxed hair need retouch ups, bond treatments and protein strengtheners to keep it healthy. While ,natural hair needs protective stlyes, wash routines, prepoo and etc to maintain it too. You just have to find what works best for you and which lifestyle you're willing to commit to because either is simple. They require work and structure but you got this!
  • Your hair, your choice. It's up to you. My hair was healthy relaxed and it's healthy now being natural. It's just a matter of taking care of it and sometimes it's the strength of the relaxer you're using as well. I've considered going back to a relaxed state myself for a while but I haven't made up my mind about it
  • I will say, the way you are handling your hair in this video Is kind'e showing the reason why. Relaxed hair is very fragile so you can't allow it to matte. Overall, doesn't look too bad you just need a solid regimen
  • I think the biggest mistake you made with this…is not with getting a relaxer per say, but you should have went to a professional and got your relaxer done. I’m not sure if this was your first ever relaxer, but if it was you definitely needed to have a professional apply it and not do yourself. I’m also wondering what was the strength of the relaxer you put on your hair because it was bone straight, it’s not supposed to be like that. A little texture in the hair is supposed to be left, relaxing the curls. Going to a professional…they could have given you lots of tips to keep it healthy without the breakage and also used the correct relaxer for your hair type. I still think it could work out for you with keeping your relaxer you just need to find a professional beautician that can give you the tips to keep your hair as healthy as possible with one. I personally wouldn’t give up so easily, but I totally understand your feelings right now and at the end of the day it’s your choice ❤ Either way natural, relaxed, your hair looks so amazing 🥰
  • I have never done anything to my hair... I have waaay more breakage than you and my hair is thin af. But I'm a natural blonde. You guys have good hair! If it's natural or relaxed.
  • @linalinnius
Hi love! Dont feel discouraged, I would treat the relaxed hair like bleached hair and use bond repair treatments. I texlaxed my hair and treat it as if I were an extremely bleached blonde. And also, Paradoxx Growth and Thickening stops hair from breaking.
  • It still looks so pretty!! Your Aries energy is really just shining through here. Is there a plan? No! Is that gonna stop you? No! Love that confidence 😍
  • its crazy to see this video of you with relaxed hair now as nearly five years ago now, you are one of the people who inspired me to do a big chop on my relaxed and badly damaged hair.
  • @deej6795
I got a relaxer but its more like a texturizer since my hair is still really curly. Its much looser and more manageable and I basically treat it like its natural and it doesn't break as long as its moisturized.
  • @LCO_0416
Your hair looks amazing, the v shape from the cut is so flattering!!!! So pretty.
  • @ashleykate8
Because a relaxer has to break bonds it naturally makes the hair cuticle thinner. Have you thought about doing a texture smoothing system (amino acid treatment) instead? My sister uses Avlon texture release in place of a relaxer and keeps her hair straight 100% of the time. Her hair is thicker now than it was with the relaxer because the system doesn't break any bonds. I also use the system at the lowest setting for curly hair and it helps with tangling. BTW your hair and the cut look amazing!

I am in the same boat. Relaxed for ease - it was not easier. Felt horrible no matter what, wasn't even fully straight and I couldn't even twist or braid it for convenience because the straight- ish ends would cause my hair to unravel. It was so dry only glycerin would help, but if I used heat it was rock hard again. Plus breakage. I learned that its full, soft and fluffy 4c always for me so I shaved my head and its crazy how in love with my texture and future styling possibilities I am now. Was worth while for personal growth!
  • This is hilarious! I just finished watching your relaxer video and I asked if you were still natural and here's your answer!❤️❤️
  • @cocoh2920
So pretty😍 your hair looks amazing and I like the cut!
