Weak strikes plagued the Peace dollars struck at the San Francisco Mint. Such is the case with the 1923-S issue. The 1923-S saw a mintage of just over 19 million pieces, the highest of any San Francisco Mint Peace dollar. However, due to weak strikes and excessive bag marks, this date is extremely hard to find in gem. In fact, NGC has only graded a mere 82 coins as gem. (8/2016)

According to the NGC Price Guide, as of September 2022, a Peace Dollar from 1923 in circulated condition is worth between $26.50 and $35.50. However, on the open market 1923 S Silver Dollars in pristine, uncirculated condition sell for as much as $29000.
