Ellie Plays The Last Of Us Main Theme by Gustavo Santaolalla - Part 2 Guitar

I let a Raspberry Pi control my game, and had it play music that TLOU fans will all certainly recognize :)

Hardware: This stems from my "Viewers Control Chaos" project that lets users change how my controller works. With a few tweaks I can apply some advanced macros like this. Though I could previously spoof button presses and joystick angles, the touchpad was only something that could be read. Recent hacking at code let me fake touchpad inputs so that I perform inhuman actions on the guitar.

Music: I modified the original version of The Last of Us Main Theme in a few ways so that it was better suited for the limitations of this interface. On major difference is the change in key near the end to take better advantage of the full range of the instrument. The original is highly expressive in its performance but there is no expression control within the game so things had be cut or shifted to not sound strange. I did my best to keep the full spirit of the original but you may notice some differences (I'm not a practiced musician so sorry if I made anything too jarring).

Update: here is new sheet music. I did not follow this, but the sheet music I used is no longer available. This seems pretty close, but again I had to modify the music anyway: musescore.com/user/4761476/scores/1322981
This is the old broken link to the sheet music I used as a guide: musescore.com/user/16006641/scores/5597004

The section that starts @2:45 does a lot of key changes in the menu to select different notes. I did this just to see if it would work and was surprised that it kept time! It was totally unnecessary to keep but I loved how chaotic the menuing looked.

64 hours spent for the main story 3400 hours spent playing the guitar

Imagine a survival post apocalyptic game with infected and all and there's a guitar simulator integrated lol

Can't believe this guitar game actually has a deep story part behind it

In my head canon, Ellie wrote this as a song about her trek across the states with Joel

Funny how Ellie can go from chilling, playing the guitar, to committing massive acts of sheer violence, carnage & bloodshed. 🤣

The Last of Us Part II is the best guitar simulation videogame. It even has a fully voiced and directed campaign to play through between practice sessions.

Ellie fingers moving all over the fret board got me dead 🤣

Honestly insane how Naughty Dog threw in a fully functioning guitar that can be used to play some pretty intricate songs even without a Raspberry Pi even when they didn't have to. TLOU2 showcases the level of quality and detail all AAA studios should strive for.
  • Those hand animations are immaculate. Especially when you consider that each of them has to be able to flow into every single other one while still looking natural.

This is honestly beautiful. Thanks for making this!

i’m so happy that they used this in the series as the theme song 🥲

This is probably harder to play than an actual guitar
  • @dyllankolinen
This is honestly more impressive than playing it on a real guitar,
  • How did you manage to play this on the little touch pad. its crazy yet very awesome 🤯

Imagine if playing this unlocked an Easter egg where you see someone walking down the aisle from the door in the back. A man. And just before his head appears in the shot, he stops as the song ends. And you just hear in that raspy Texas accent… “How are you doing, kiddo?” close up shot of Ellie turning around slowly transition shot back to this angle no one is there

Ellie not knowing she’s in a game but playing TLOU game theme song

The funny thing is that this is much more impressive than playing it in real life.

I play guitar, and when I tell you, playing actual notes on the guitar in the game is wayyyyyy harder than playing the notes on a real guitar. This is skill
