this ballade is probably my most favorite piece of music from any composer, and to hear it played like this is just breathtaking.

Now this is a truly original, completely mesmerizing interpretation of the Ballade in F minor. In just over 11 minutes, he told the story of a lifetime. I'm especially impressed with the melodic secrets he revealed within this piece. I loved it. Bravo, Eric Lu!

I find Lu's interpretation of this composition totally satisfying. I have heard this music a hundred times interpreted by the most famous pianists, and there is nothing missing here. Perfect expression, perfect technique, perfect respect for Chopin and no attempt to mix Eric Lu into that part of the work of art that belongs to the composer.
  • 7 years later and this is still the best interpretation of this piece I've ever heard. Very little I would do differently.
  • A perfect interpretation of this beautiful Ballade of Chopin, absolutely marvelous! It's remarkable the way he plays, clearly feeling each single note of the piece. Congratulations, Eric, you have indeed a great talent.

Amazing pianist! He has fantastic control of instrument. Beautifull touch! Poet of piano! His technique is in a service of music!

What a pleasure to watch and listen to Eric Lu. There's a serenity, a unity, and transcendence with the music taking place that makes his performance a spiritual experience. Thank you for sharing your heart through music with us.

It would be doing Mr. Lu a disservice to say that he plays the piano. Rather, he seems to get inside the notes on the page and animate them with his own sensitive spirit. It is hard to imagine him getting any better than he is now, but of course he will. Bravo, Eric.

I will get to see him in a couple of weeks, and then Cho in another couple of months (with Yuja in between). Great first half of this year.
  • @Roberth911able
He's the rare kind of pianist who genuinely and humbly serves the music he plays.
  • @SunThathong
The quality and clarity of sound he produces is phenomenal!! On top of that he adds his soul and artistry, perfect combination for Chopin's music. I'd be immensely surprised if he doesn't make top three. Bravo, Eric!

Mr. Eric Lu is a true genius! I really love his performance. His playing always makes me believe that he has warm yet strong respect for composer. No aspect of annoyment is added, he carries a pure beauty of Chopin's music. Especially this ballad is like telling a story of life, so magnificent. Bravo!

Outstanding interpretation. Intuitive interplay of themes, connecting, and overlapping motifs, as the mind does when remembering. Lu shares an excerpt of life...very personally. We hear the meaning of ballade. Wonderfully played.
  • I was breathless, it's fantastic ! Superlative in every aspect !
