Actually, birds of a feather flock together is completely accurate to Jimmy's immediate friends. Carl, Jimmy, and Sheen, are all sub-archetypes of the Nerd. Carl is a stab at the concept of nerd as in "defective and unpopular individual who copes with said weakness and unpopularity by clinging to oddly specific forms of entertainment and media". Jimmy is more along the lines of a nerd as in "know-it-all who experiences social difficulty because of arrogance in addition to a fascination with topics that are well beyond the wheelhouse of one's peers". And finally, Sheen is the classical comic book nerd; "a full or semi narcissist who obsesses over all things 'cool' and believes himself to have a part in them, which he clearly does not, resulting in social isolation". Somewhat similar to Carl's flavor of Nerd, though while Carl and his archetype's isolation is what drives him to continue seeking out escapism with irrational fervor, Sheen and his archetype's obsessions are not the result, but the cause, of his social blundering. This has become one of my new comfort channels. Just sit down and enjoy some happy nostalgia. This and Cinema Wins. I think this is the only cartoon I watched growing up that my Dad actually liked. He didn't really hate any of the other stuff. It was just dumb kid stuff. Except Dragon Ball Z. Was banned from watching it. Didn't get to sit down and watch all of Dragon Ball, DBZ and GT until I was in my early 20s. Meanwhile my Mom watched all of Dragon Ball Super with me and my sister and her favorite character is Frieza lol And she still watches Spongebob to this day.
