  • At 12 I was the "littlest urchin" in the show on Broadway (fifty four years ago) and watched this from the wings every night. I will never tire of this. He was a genius.
  • Has anyone thought of reviving this musical on Broadway or maybe make a musical of Anthony Newley’s life? He was such a musical genius in my opinion and he and his partner wrote some beautiful and wonderful songs for both stage and screen.
  • I saw this show (Roar of the Greasepaint) in 1965 in NYC, and still remember how moving it was.
  • For everyone here and now in 2023 all alone in a world where all has gone wrong and almost out of hope..inspire your self with this song for a brighter tomorrow ❤
  • Anthony Newley and me were children during the 1940's although Anthony was five years older than me so w both began our schooldays as four year olds but Anthony left school at 14 years of age and I left school age 15 during 1951.
  • This I think is probably the single greatest performance by any artist I’ve ever seen.
  • Incredible! A musical genius no less! No words can describe what I felt while watching Anthony Newley's incomparable performance. A master class indeed!
  • I was playing this for my mom today. She loved it, remembered she hadn’t heard it in many years.
  • True Genius. He did it all. Composing/writing/singing/performing...still thrills to the bottom of my being. xoxo P
  • Anthony Newley, the GREATEST, love him!!!!! RIP Anthony Newley....
  • A masterclass in how to act a song , the brilliant Tony Newley
  • David Bowie came to mind the minute I heard Anthony singing this.
  • Wow what a performance ,sad powerful, recalled my lovely wife, always together ,Someone to "guide me and someone beside me " So very true .....For all the lost dreams and special loves ... .
  • Saw him do this on Broadway-- still get chills. His passion was so genuine, and in context, you couldn't keep the tears away. Some were disappointed it wasn't another "Stop the World", but this was more layered and complex. Not many songwriters are the ones who perform their creations best.

One of the best things about the Ed Sullivan show was that you could watch cast members from Broadway musicals perform live. Thanks for sharing.
