  • Before I signed, I thought these are people I want to do business with, and I was not wrong. Smart, driven, and they will do everything they possibly can to help you succeed, which as Ben points out is so hard for small business owners to find and afford. Such an interesting discussion.

God I don’t even want to own a gym but I feel I just got a great lesson in business. Wait, do I want to own a gym now? 🤔
  • Lovely to see a family who get along well enough to go into business together. Really informative discussion on the challenges and positives of business ownership.

I have always wanted to open a gym and I always said mine would not have machines and just a bunch of dumbells and powerracks and barbells, then I pick up that blue book 5 years ago and set it back down. Now im going back through the book, doing the program and watching these podcasts. I end up watching a podcast with a surgeon who i discover has opened a SS gym........ sometimes you know what you want to do and all you need is something to push you in the right direction and that was it. I will be openening one of these gyms because its the gym i always wish i could have gone to but never had :) im so excited to learn you can open a SS gym!!! Just gotta save up!
  • Probably the biggest reason why the supply of space is so tight is that in many markets, the costs are too high. Throw in the added regulation over the last dozen years, and this is why it supply is tight and rents are high. If we do go into a significant recession, some of the space will clear out.

This makes me want to apply to start SS Detroit so badly..
  • @ronxxf
How do you choose/find racks, platforms, barbells, weights ect. ? Does the dude from OC give discounts on weights to franchisees?
  • How about something in DC Metro area plenty of rich out of shape people here I'm poor & out of shape but I'd happily be your first customer..., I'll walk into a prepaid annual contract just show up in the damn area
  • @danmollo6687
This makes me just want to train people out of my garage
  • @cmdrfunk
It's pretty questionable to go into business with someone who watches John Oliver
  • @MrVigilanti
First thing is get way too fat and have subpar lifting numbers

It sucks that so many people in Starting Strength are ultra right wingers. The "far left cities" thing is super uncalled for in addition to showing right wing brain rot. Definitely makes me reconsider ever owning a SS franchise if you'd have to be in business with people like that.
