The Saturn version was the first home port of After Burner II that was really arcade perfect. It ran at 60fps just like the original 1987 arcade game on Sega's X-Board hardware. The 32X version was only 30fps, and as a result, does not look or play as smooth as the arcade and Saturn version. The more recent Sega 3D Classics version for 3DS is also wonderful.

Saturn version is looking damned slick. But 2D-based games really was its forte, so handling a sprite scaling game is something it could do in its sleep.

Saturn looking really impressive here. Very arcade-like look and feel. MD was a bit out of its depth trying to tackle the advanced sprite scaling and raster effects here and in other mid-late 80s arcade greats.
  • The saturn version is clearly better, but getting that back on the genesis still would of been fun as hell back on the day. They did a good job on that hardware.

Yes obviously comparing a game from 2 different generations is going to highlight graphical differences but watching this video reminds me of how good the megadrive version was in terms of the all important 'arcade feel' the music was great,it ran at 60 fps and despite the graphical downgrade it felt like arcade game, something that can not be said of the 8 bit and 16 bit home console and computer versions.

Impressive how affordable home consoles’ hardware performance caught up with arcade almost 10 years later than the originals.
  • I wish the Sega Saturn had received way more of Sega's Arcade sprite scalers. Sega made a mistake not porting more if not all of them over to the SS IMO.

This arcade classic is still so much fun to play. 🤗

Genesis version is impressive for its time. Unlike, let's say, Space Harrier 2, which feels too weird for me (not a fan TBH).
  • I remember playing this on Saturn and thinking to myself finally! an arcade perfect port

It would be a better idea to compare Saturn with the 32x version

Ambas versões bons portes, amei os 2
  • What I think I prefer here is the MD's scrolling. Idk, it just feels faster.

would've much preferred a comparison between the 32X and Saturn.

Genesis u can outrun the enemies with a boost or 2. The better versions have u do a funky top gun manuever of speeding up slowing down to get the guy in front of u fora lock on

The megadrive port of this looks smooth compared to super hang on space harrier2 outrun turbo outrun and galaxy force i'd say the devs did a splendid job yeah ok more could be happening on screen like more background details and more enemies on screen but at the time was awesome. Shame the other scalers on the megadrive wasn't as smooth..

Tem também versão do After Burner 2 pra hu card de Pc Engine., e a da Sunsoft para Famicom After Burner para NES da Tengen, seria interessante comparar esta com a clássica de Master System.
