Earlier this year, I thought I'd have a go at learning how to use 3D animation software, really just so I could do some simple effects in my films... but I got a little bit carried away.

The ThunderCats have been a love of mine since I can remember and the intro is something I thought would be a fun challenge to recreate and keep my interest while I was learning the software.

I'm now developing a ThunderCats short film, making use of some of the years of notes I've kept for a feature trilogy. I'm currently recruiting 3D artists to help me, so check out my channel for updates on that.

All 3D animation was done in Blender, an awesome (and completely free) animation software. Shoutout to those behind the MB-Labs plugin for Blender which I used to create the base models for Lion-o, Cheetara, Tygra, Panthro, WilyKit and WilyKat. Lightning and smoke effects were done in Adobe After Effects. Edited in Premiere Pro. Thanks also to the many YouTubers who upload Blender tutorials - I must have watched hundreds of them. Ian Hubert's lazy tutorials are particularly awesome and inspiring.

ThunderCats is, of course, the property of Warner Bros. and its affiliates, and this video should be in no way used for financial gain or commercial use. This video is not associated or connected to Warner Bros. and is simply a fan film made by and for fellow ThunderCats fans.

This was my whole childhood summed up in one cartoon intro; no, I’m not crying, you’re crying!
  • Man, im from South East Asia - Malaysia. Born in 75, and boy let me tell ya.. 80's cartoons like thundercats, transformers, starcom, gi joe were the best things in my childhood! Never miss em.. Platinum!
  • Dude. This is not only incredible but also just shows how legendary the editing and choices made in the 80s intro were. Thundercats was genius. And so is this.

It will never cease to amaze me what kind of insane shit people are able to create just by sheer love and dedication to whatever they are fans of. This is not something a big studio or even game publisher did on a huge budged, it's done by a guy who loves his craft! I'm utterly amazed.

I suddenly shed tears when I saw this video. I remember my childhood years watching it with my Dad. This made me miss him so much. Been 14 years since he passed away but damn, the nostalgia is real. Great video and thank you for reminding me that my Dad is still with me no matter what. ❤

The childhood era of Thundercats, GI Joe, He Man, and Star Wars.....pure gold.
  • @Maxnarpe
Things like these just make you appreciate how great the animation in that original opening really was. True skill and craftsmanship
  • @kliajesal4592
See, this is what Thundercats has been missing. Some goddamn RESPECT.
  • @jrfields1642
yo! this made me tear up, i love how he kept it original and just gave the graphics a today's look. That's how re-boots should be and not changing everything to be modern...this was perfect
  • @Maxnarpe
MY GOD IN HEAVEN!! This is incredibly pleasing to watch. What I’d give for a studio to give this man a big budget. 🔥🔥
  • @Maxnarpe
Watching this has, somehow, validated my entire childhood. Thank you. I was having such a crappy day and this made me feel so much better.
  • @nhlpa17
Some kids will never know of this show's greatness.
  • @elzardelzur1746
This can only be done by someone who grew up watching 80’s cartoons.
  • @rodrigoperaza
I would love it, if they would make a version like this. I would rewatch every session and just imagine what else could be done with the Thundercats storyline!
  • @ph328
Christ, someone please hire him and make this into a series.
  • So while a dedicated and fan turns this out for free, the intellectual property holder funds and gives us Thundercats: Roar. Thank god for the fans.
  • @MRWIL246
