With over sixty-five published books, two hundred short stories, and five decades of experience to his name, it’s no wonder that Stephen King knows how to spin a good yarn. And games have taken lots of inspiration from King's work, so from Layers of Fear to Deadly Premonition here are 10 Video Games Clearly Inspired by Stephen King!

A couple years back when you were hiring I considered writing a script on this exact subject. I was born and raised in Maine and have been a fan of King’s stuff since I was maybe 10 years old, so it’s a topic near and dear to my heart.
  • I would argue both Remnant games have Dark Tower vibes with all the dimension hopping. That and there's literally a Gunslinger class.

I'm not sure I can be convinced some of these were inspired by King (many have horror elements that have been around much longer than King), but I love the list!

you actually missed probably the 2 biggest king references in silent hill. first, all the streets in the first SH are named after famous horror writers, one of those streets is bachman road (richard bachman being one of the names king has written under). second, king actually is in the game. that scene you showed with harry talking to cybil in the diner, the posters on the wall in the background are low resolution copies of a poster that king created for his college newspaper that has him with long hair and a beard pointing a double barrel shotgun at the viewer with the caption "study damnit".

100% down for Needful Things the game. It'd basically be an M-rated psychonauts and I'd be here for it.
  • I suggest the Xbox 360 version of Deadly Premonition. The ports to PC, Switch, and PS3 by Toy Box Studios made some bad changes to the game.
  • 9 Games That Bear a Passing Resemblance to the Works of Stephen King + Alan Wake
  • Alter World is an indie game on Steam and 3ds with inspiration from King

Great list. More like this about the intersection of games and books would be awesome.
  • Hmmmm.. As a child of the 60's and video game fan from the mid 1970's, (and an actual forename of Stephen myself) it's probably quite weird that I've never read a Stephen King novel. It's not for want of reading stuff in general. I reckon from the mid 70's - early 80's I probably scarfed my way through a sizeable portion of my local town's state of the art library's fiction AND non-fiction sections. I was always more partial to Dennis Wheatley myself. 'The Ka of Gifford Hillary' being a personal favourite. Also loads of science fiction. Mostly short story anthologies. But some long form fiction also.
  • Stephen King has forgotten writing more books than most will ever actually write.

Sanitarium is one of my absolute favourites of all time. It’s brilliant.
  • @CBlade0
Well done using games that aren't on every other list. Very refreshing.
  • @yotaruvegeta
This list did its job. I have a new game to look up!

I’m glad I don’t let political opinions affect my view of people, because I wouldn’t be able to bear disliking Stephen King. Dude is a legend

Who's the member of the team with the glasses? I've been watching the channel for years, just always wondered who he is because ive never seen him on camera?
  • @Blocparty01
Surprised you didn't get Alan Wake, the most obvious one of of the way first
