You might want to watch this if you're considering quitting your job.

Here's a look at what my life was like when I quit my job and became a full-time YouTuber 5 years ago.

I'm Greg Preece, a YouTuber based out of the United Kingdom. I make videos to help YouTubers build consistent and automated income systems from their YouTube channels. I share what I learn from selling my own digital products and services as a YouTuber myself. I also study the creator economy and interview YouTubers to show what business models YouTubers are currently using to create automated income from their YouTube videos.

I went full time way too early and got myself into a whole bunch of financial trouble for a couple years, I was so broke I couldn't eat sometimes. I don't regret it one bit now because it forced me to find a way to make it work and now I'm in a really good place doing what I love. If you want to take the island, burn the boats.

I didnā€™t quit my job for YouTube, but I did quit it for a failed business. Some days I go hungry. šŸ˜¢ If anyone who is contemplating quitting your job. Donā€™t do it until you have a really good emergency fund, and you have all your basic needs taken care of. I could be homeless soon

wow i lov how transparent you are..ive had this same up n down struggle with YouTube revenue as we speak im in a downward spiral of losing money each day n this is after having a great month in March. its incredibly frustrating..at one point I thought my my channel got semi demonitized or something or maybe i have violations i don't know
  • @DavidLindgren89
Thank you for the transparency! It's so true! I've been gaining more and more views for 12 months straight without increasing ad revenue (hopefully it will go up soon) so it is very unpredictable for sure. I still think it is worth it, but creating a consistent income and have multiple income streams have really helped me get that stability and not base my mood too much on the ad revenue alone. Helps me focus on just continuing to create good videos. :)

Awesome video Greg, so many people talk about how easy it is to start a video online, so it's nice to see someone being honest about their transition from a job into starting a business šŸ˜€ more like this please šŸ˜€
  • Nice video, so many people are into greed and so many low strategies when it comes to trading and investing its really recommendable before going into any online trading market please seek Guidance from any trading expert you know off so you won't end up losing money and Energy when trading with poor strategies.
  • I went full time on YouTube 1 month ago and already seeing great results. Not sleeping and have no money for food, thanks for asking

Thank you so much for confirming that being a YouTube creator is out of my depth. I think the core desire of not wanting to start a business translates to not wanting to be a YouTuber quite easily.
  • This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my YouTube channel 5 months ago about self development. Now I have 317 subs and almost > 100 hours of watch time. I know itā€™s not comparable with others but Iā€™m still proud I started because Iā€™ve been learning so many lessons that I couldnā€™t have learned without getting started in the 1st place.

I know itā€™s not comparable with others but Iā€™m still proud I started because Iā€™ve been learning so many lessons that I could havenā€™t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

I think youtube a would great way to supplement/promote an existing business. It should not be the business itself.
  • I really love creating content and would love to make enough to do this part time but my actual career has very good benefits.401k Pension and so many perks that I have been blessed to take advantage of. We will see where this takes me but leaving that behind would be a hard hit.
  • @JuSiPa
Amazing candid video Greg - so refreshing, thank you!
  • @Vourn-75
I think it's all about how you prepared prior quitting your job. Quitting your jo is one thing and quitting being YouTubers is even worst so, just don't quite, keep going and posts more and more video and you'll do good

my YouTube earnings keep dropping too i really don't know why..i got paid more when i had 5000 subscribers than i get with 19+ subscribers
  • Yes growing a channel is hard i have 49 subscribers since last year. But i had to quit the job was suffocating me. I hope i will soon
  • @RGC_animation
You have to be very lucky to actually earn a living on Youtube, don't quit your job for Youtube unless you know what you're doing. From the stories I've heard, people that quit their job for Youtube are people who already have a huge following and are sure that they can pay everything even during low points where their channels aren't doing great. (Also inspirational speaker and influencers who write books are full of bullshit, don't trust them)
  • @gencdoda
Thank you for sharing, great story!
