I just ordered one of these last night, coming Saturday. I got it for my wife to use in place of the remote that came with our TCL Roku TV. That remote works just fine, but it doesn't have a headphone jack on it. Sometimes my wife likes to watch the tv with headphones on so she doesn't disturb my sleep or anything else. So, found this on the Roku site and thought it was a good idea to get one. Also like the thought of plugging it in to re-charge instead of changing batteries.

I love Roku voice remote. I cut the cord for cable and used Roku ever since, ps vue cable, Hulu, YouTube tv cable app, why go back to cable. It's better, half the price, and so much easier

Save your money. By the 6th time you try to charge it the remote stops holding a charge and only works when it is plugged into the charger. There is at least 11 pages of complaints on the Roku Support forum that they respond with surprise every time someone makes the same complaint

Why didn't you try out the voice control features?

I bought the new remote before this video was released to try it out on my Roku TV. The remote that came with the TV did not have Voice or headset options and had a very smooth finish. Once I charged the remote, turned on the TV with the original remote, and then pressed a key on the new remote the TV automatically recognized it without having to pair it. I can use either the original remote or the new remote at the same time. So now my wife can have her own (old) remote and I can have mine near where we sit and either one of us can change apps. The Voice remote has a textured finish but I don't have problem with the finish on either remote. I can use a headset for private listening which is a nice feature. The only problem I have with the remote is a lack of instructions on using the voice feature. For me I am happy with my purchase of the new Voice Remote Pro.

My old remote started to fail, so I purchased one of these. I generally agree with the review, but there are some additional things I'd like to add. The remote is very light. It weighs about the same as the old does without the batteries. My old one didn't have a mute button. This one does. The only problem I've experienced is, if I reboot the Roku, I have to set up for my TV control again.

For streaming services with huge numbers of channel options, I want page-up and page-down keys to make it easier to get through the complete menu options

They made a wife proof remote. My wife always drops the remote until the battery door won't stay on anymore... This is perfect.

The Headphone feature has always been my favorite feature. Now with rechargeable capabilities, those two features alone, imo, are worth the price.
  • @MaKaElectric
Love that it's both RF and IR. USB-C would be a plus tho!

New features of find lost remote and handsfree audio control adds to a smart choice to stream.

I wrote a review for this, which should be posted to their website after they approve it. In the review, I said that I like this remote for the most part. What I don't like is that the hands-free voice control seems to cause the battery to go from fully charged to nearly dead in about 2 days. This is no better than most cell phones. Having turned that feature off a couple of days ago, I'm guessing the battery might last a month before needing to be charged. This is considerably less than the 2 months battery life that Roku advertises. That said, I wouldn't buy another one unless Roku fixes that flaw.
  • For those with Ultra's already it's really not worth it, especially at $30. Ultra's themselves are often under $100 and sometimes as low as $50 sometimes during the year. $30 for a remote that is "almost" the same as what comes with the Ultra right now. For Roku's that "retail" for $30-50 it's kind of hard to justify $30 for a replacement remote as well. You would be better off upgrading to an Ultra at that point and get a better streaming box and better remote over what comes with the lower units, even if not exactly what comes with optional remote.
  • @StevenTorrey
How long does the battery last? How long does it take for charging? What does #1 & #2 on the remote refer to?
  • I was so interested in the Roku Voice Remote Pro when you said it could be used to turn my tv on and off, but then I remembered that's what my Roku remote is supposed to do. I was still interested until you said that it has the ability to search channels by voice until I remembered that's what my remote does. Its just not very useful, I was still interested when you said it has a rechargeable battery until I thought, what happens when the battery goes bad? No thanks I prefer my own batteries. I just dont see how its any better than my nearly 10 year old Roku Romote.

Nice job on the review. Good speaking voice, clear info.
  • I got the Roku remote voice Pro On May 10th great remote so far everybody should have a built-in batteries

I bought the Roku Ultra device a month ago, and the remote only held a charge for about a month. So, it looks like I am going to be recharging it at least every month. That's ridiculous. The older Roku remote I used with a Roku TV would take two AAA batteries and easily last almost a year. Even brand new, after a just a month, I am already not happy with this new rechargeable remote.
