This album is a fucking grower. They took risks and they succeeded. The more you listen to it, the more addictive it becomes. I love this kind of drug.

The bridge of “you’re on your own kid” actually kills me. I honestly think it hits females on a different level. The try harding to be accepted, ignoring that it creates your worst insecurities. Coming out of a shithole and saying “well fuck i’ll do this for me now”.

Im pretty sure her performance of Vigilante Shit during the Eras tour had so many people questioning their sexuality

One of my fave things in Mastermind is when she sings that he smirked at the end, meaning he knew the whole time that she was scheming and he let her... and that it WAS fate that set them up.... so it was an invisible string tying them together

youre on your own kid is for the girlies, it hits us differently. love u dawg but its a gorgeous song that descibes the female experience perfectly and you really have to soak it in, take every lyric and pair it with a memory from your girlhood

For “you’re on your own kid” I truly think that the production was not meant to be the focus of the song. I think Taylor was trying to tell a story and the lyrics matter most. I think it’s a song to relate to and calmly enjoy. It was one of my favorite songs of the album and I think Troy should have focused on the lyrics and storyline more. But hey, still love ya dude. And Midnights in a masterpiece. 🌙

I don't trust people who call this album mid. Despite the upbeat production and enchanting melodies, the lyrics are so heartbreaking and they hit close to home. This album is so personal and special to Taylor, and I think people take that for granted. Every listen it gets better. It's Rep and 1989's child, with the heart of Lover. (and the writing/sadness of folklore and evermore)

The connection between anti-hero and mastermind gives me chills like the fear and trepidation in anti-hero that he will eventually figure out and “get tired of my scheming” and leave only to then finally have in mastermind where she feels like she has to tell him about the scheming even if it ends them, only for him to have known the whole time and loved her for it is so beautiful and a nice line through the whole album like finally sharing her fears and realizing that the people who love her love her in spite of and because of them

Just because Lana didn’t have a verse on Snow on the beach DOES NOT mean it’s a bad song. Would it have been better if Lana had a verse, yes, but it’s still a really good song

I'm that subset of the fandom that will always hold folklore/evermore at like the top tier and nothing will ever change that, but midnights is REALLY fucking close behind those, like midnights is a masterpiece

Maroon is by far and away my favorite song on the regular album. Seeing your appreciation for it is WONDERFUL

You're On Your Own Kid is not a disappointing track as u would say. It's one of the best songs from Midnights in terms of lyrics. The bridge part is the highlight of the song.

‘You’re on your own kid’ is a masterpiece for me. The entire album has been criticised lyrically compared to folklore and evermore but one has to understand that Taylor loves playing with genres and periods and language according to it. That being said, I love Midnight lyrically as well because of its simplicity in exploring and conveying emotions. It’s very simple - “you are on your own, kid. You always have been.” For someone who’s gone through a lot since childhood to adulthood, having to do everything by their own, I relate to the song on a personal level. The bridge, especially, her ‘simply’ suggesting us “everything you lose is a step you take” and encouraging us to “make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it,” and then furthermore assuring us that “you’ve got no reason to be afraid” feels like home. These are words you would want to hear as a kid. Simple words. Taylor Swift is a genius!

So glad I'm not the only one who heard 'Lavender Haze' and thought it felt like a mix of "False God" and "I Think He Knows". Love your reactions, man.
