Sorry for no April Fools vid... didn't want to keep you guys waiting on an actual video! Hope you enjoy nonetheless and let me know what you think about version exclusives! ^^

And then one of the exclusives ends up being so broken that Gamefreak nerfs it, while also nerfing its counterpart who was nowhere nearly as strong.

"What motivated you to make many version exclusives Gamefreak?" "Money!"

The argument of trade with someone is so flaud. Not only is it harder nowadays because you dont just have friends to trade with. But also who the heck is going to give you hteir version exclusive legendary?
  • Version exclusives mainly exist for two reasons: 1. Money 2. To encourage trading That being said, I am also in the camp of people who wished that version-exclusives never existed. I think Scarlet and Violet have an especially massive problem with version exclusives with how many viable VGC Pokemon that are version-exclusive like Raging Bolt and Flutter Mane.
  • You can thank Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario and Zelda, for suggesting that Pokémon should have two versions of the game
  • And that's another reason why I love PLA so much, you can do everything in that game alone, and without anyone else's help too.

Version exclusives outside of the cover art legendary are literally pointless. Fun fact Heart Gold and Soul Silver removed this effect from the cover legendary Pokémon, get 16 gym badges and speak to a certain NPC and you can get both Ho-Oh and Lugia in a single game. This kind of feature is now removed by plot, sword and shield your rival will always get the other legendary Pokémon despite being a weakling and unworthy to be a Pokémon trainer according to themself. Scarlet and Violet the time machine gets butterfly effected out of existence so you can't use it to get the other paradox Pokémon you need. Honestly the dumbest one jas got to be Ambipom and Gliscor's lines being version exclusive Pokémon, basically unless you're trading spare shinies for legendary/Paradox Pokémon you need Nintendo switch online is virtually worthless in scarlet and Violet as they more often than not release cross version mass outbreaks that render the initial version exclusivity worthless as you can just literally wait for one of these to be announced and complete a Pokédex accordingly. They could probably fix the bugs in Scarlet and Violet with the space saved by removing several shiny locks and the stupidity of version exclusivity that they just ignore later anyway. So why even have bothered making the Pokémon version exclusive anyway if your going to go back on it months - a year or so from release? Heck you can even cheat the version exclusivity by using Pokémon home! Simply own any game interfaceable with home and drop the required Pokémon into Scarlet or Violet, you can even use Pokémon Go if you've caught the Pokémon your transferring in the game your sending it to. So many ways to simply ignore the rules built into the games, rendering many of them meaningless to have been implemented in the first place.
  • As i kid i hated version exclusives and trade evos so much. I had no way of trading before the DS era (because there was like no market to buy the link cables anywhere, and everything else was bought second-hand, until the DS games) and i had no friends who played the game or had a link cable.
  • @IronHazard
i thought the version exclusive were meant to get people to trade with each other.

Fun fact: there’s no way to tell if a traded pokemon is genned, as if a pokemon is ‘legal’ the hack check in game does not catch it. 99% of DQs for genned pokemon have been because those genned pokemon were not legally obtainable in game; stuff like being caught in the wrong place or being in a pokeball they could not be obtained in.
  • Wow, didn't even talk about any other version exclusive things (like Team Magma/Aqua, Galar's Gym Leaders, or even how Unova has completely different locations based on the version)
  • @tedscheett9420
Not only do version exclusives need to be dropped, but even Trade Evolutions. And funny thing is, Game Freak kinda has this sentiment already. It's still mechanically in the game, but through raids or even overworld encounters, NEEDING to trade for a Pokemon has become a thing of the past. Game Freak has even stopped making Pokemon that need to be traded to evolve with the last trade evolution Pokemon being Alolan Golem, and if we aren't counting regional forms, Gen 6 was the last gen to introduce trade evolution Pokemon. This proves that Game Freak does have an ear to the ground, and forcing ridiculous requirements like Gouging Fire and Raging Bolt is not only completely unnecessary, but a conscious decision. To not only have to pick the correct version, but the get the DLC and have the player catch around the ballpark of 300 Pokemon (because there is some overlap between dexs, thank GOD) is honestly ridiculous. I'm in the boat where Purple is my favorite color and the future Pokemon looked cool to me when I saw the leaks. Only to find out Flutter Mane is the best Pokemon since Zacian-Crowned AFTER the fact.
  • @Clone394
Forgot that trading is mostly unusable as the PC doesn't want to fix impossible, hack pokémon and ppl asking for stupid trades.
