Burzum - Det Som Engang Var
Finally it's possible to upload the entire masterpiece of the Lord of Darkness, "the Count" Varg Vikernes a.k.a. Greifi Grishnackh (Count Grishnackh). This is the first song on the 1994 album called "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss", which means 'If The Light Takes Us'.

Lyrics:

I mellom buskene vi stirret på de
Som minnet om andre tider,
Og fortalte at håpet var borte,
For all tid...

Vi hørte alvesang og vann som sildret...

Det som engang var er nu borte...

Alt blod...
All lengsel og sorg som hersket
Og de følelser som kunne røres
Er vekk, for all tid...

Vi døde ikke...
Vi har aldri levd.

The album 'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss' was recorced in Grieghallen Lydstudio during September 1992.
Produced by Greifi Grishnackh and "Pytten".
Cover art is the painting "Fattigmannen" by Theodor Kittelsen (1857 - 1914, R.I.P).
All music and lyrics written and performed by Greifi Grishnackh.
The album 'Hvis Lyset Tar Oss' is dedicated to Fenriz of Darkthrone and Demonaz of Immortal.

"Hvis Lyset Tar Oss er dedikert til mine brødre, Fenriz og Demonaz.
Nordens Skalder, følg den brune lampe og dens Høfding!"
- Varg Vikernes, 1992.

It's fascinating how every member of this band has killed someone.

I really can feel what this man was living when he did this song. Every detail is resembled, the mountains, the snow, the darkness, the moon, the loneliness, the sadness, the anger, the despair.. Burzum is a great project that should always be memorized..
  • This song is like a trip to the other world. Cold, dark and mysterious.

I remember being an angsty teenager who had just began listening to black metal. I used to listen to the most "brutal" or "extreme bands". When I came across this song everything changed for me, and I gathered new knowledge within myself, understood something else and I probably don't know what. This song is a transcendental masterpiece.
  • Technically a very simple song, but emotionally complex. This is easily in my top 5 songs of all time. It's intense feelings of despair and nostalgia, but not specified and grounded. It is like sadness and hopelessness for something that may never have been. It's hard to put words to the thought, but I guess that's why the song exists. Music can evoke things that words cannot.

This is easily one of the greatest songs ever recorded in human history. How just 1 very young man could create a masterpiece like this is nearly incomprehensible. There is so much depth of feeling and atmosphere it is just mind blowing! This song should be far more legendary than the crimes of the man who created it.

Its crazy that a young guy in the city of Bergen made this all by himself; a groundbreaking contribution to our cultural history. I don't care about Varg's crimes. He is a legend, and he deserves to be admired for his work, especially his albums from 1992-1996.

Wherever you are, no matter how comfortable you are, listening to this transports you to a cold, dark forest, alone and rotting, freezing to death with no hope or joy left inside you. Varg's screams tell it all, no need for more words.

The commenct section is amazing here. Black metal is hard to understand for majority of people. It has it's own beauty, and as funny as it may sound it requires a very particular type of sensitivity. Really nice to see people admiring depth and finding emotions in this music. Thanks! P.s. Burzum truly is a masterpiece
  • Varg really nailed the atmosphere in this. My favorite burzum song.

The best black metal song there is. Whatever you think of Varg Vikernes and his plentiful opinions, he is a black metal god. This is black metal at its finest. For alltid.

Chills all over. Still one of the best black metal songs ever.
