An important part of Emmitt Till’s story is that the white woman in question lied about what happened and she never apologized or showed any remorse for what she or her husband did (she only died last year at 88, so this was not long ago at all) nor did they receive any criminal recourse. It’s a horrific pieces of history that we have, unfortunately, not moved past at all 😢

It’s not a mystery thriller, but THE best twist I’ve ever read is in The Membranes by Chi Ta Wei, a taiwanese author, if you’re looking for nonwhite authors for the next batch. It’s truly such a wild book — technically more of a dystopian novella
-
Thriller/Mystery is my favorite genre, but I also rarely give them 5 stars
-
I gave None of this is True 1 star and I honestly wish I hadn’t read it.
-
It's funny because I just read None of This is True and personally I really loved it, but I agree that it isn't actually very twisty at all. I expected it to be a lot more shocking with how people talk about it.
-
I am here for the “None of this is True” SLANDER👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
-
Whoever told you The Trees has a shocking plot twist was lying, it's very much speculative literary thriller
-
THANK YOU for validating how borrrringgg none of this is true was!!!! i just couldn’t do it, i didn’t GET it!
-
My favourite mysteries are ones where I get MOST of the twist/solution but not all of it. So I get to feel very smart but still get a little surprise 😂
-
I once managed to determine the culprit simply by process of elimination very early on. Sometimes it's so obvious what fake outs an author has planned and by simply assuming those won't happen I chose the only leftover character as my suspect and 300p later turns out I was right 😂
-
I'm glad you didn't like None of This is True because I hated it due to even our audience stand in (Alex) victim blaming Josie for being groomed and praising the groomer for being a decent father??? It was so predictable outside of this and generally boring.... all that and they still mention how devious and powerful a 15 yr old was when she got togther with a 40 yr old??? WTH i will die on this hill, I hate that godforsaken book

The tree you chose to sit at while wrapping up The Trees is so beautiful. Like one of the coolest trees I've ever seen. What a lovely little spot.
-
Watching you read The Last One as someone who has read it was so good 😂👌
-
I also hated the ending of The Last One…it made me want to scream lol
-
petition to get kayla some bobbins cause that thread management is not okay 🤣
-
As soon as you held up The Trees I immediately thought to recommend Assumption by Percival Everett, the plot twist is HUGE and I literally think about it all the time and I read it 4 years ago now!
-
I love how you said you're not not gonna try to guess but be along for the ride yet we get full in depth theories as you read 😅
-
When you mentioned the dogs in The Last One, I'm thinking 'all of the people have been turned into dogs'. Can't tell you why or how but now I have to know what happened to all the people. Also adding The Trees to my tbr. Thanks for another great video ❤

As a cross stitcher and reader, this was so exciting! Haha. Cross stitch wise, who cares about your back? No one. Don’t worry about it. Your storage methods though? Girl pleeeeeease. 😂 but I totally get feeling organized online but not in real life, cause same. You’ve introduced me to some really great thrillers so I’m pumped to follow your journey/advice with these!

The Trees was so weird and yet so funny. Aside from its heavy impact (it certainly packs a punch) and its unique premise, I remember often laughing because of the dry, deadpan humor. I live in the south and the idiocy of the white characters was painfully spot on. Percival Everett is a fantastic writer.
