Leaks from Eritrea, Africa's North Korea

Eritrea is the most censored country in the world, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Sans Frontières. Often referred to as Africa's North Korea, the Eritrean government controls the flow of information with vigilance, restricting any dissenting voices from reaching the people.

As a result, Eritrean activists are forced to get creative. Through pirate radio, cold calls, messages on banknotes and posters put up in the dead of night, dissidents find ways to generate the only resistance they can.

VICE News follows members of the Eritrean diaspora community in Europe as they run radio stations, maintain online opposition sites and help to organize those still in Eritrea.

China is ripping children away from Uighur parents, putting them into camps and brainwashing them. This year, VICE News' Isobel Yeung went undercover to reveal what is happening. Watch the full doc now - bit.ly/2Xfyu36

I'm 40 years old and it still blows my mind how humans are masters at treating their fellow humans life garbage. Our thirst for power over others knows no bounds.

When I tell you that the internet teaches me more about the world than school ever has, I’m not lying. I never knew about this.

I’m Kenyan in the US and have many Eritrean friends here. I honestly didn’t know it was that rough back in their home country even though I’ve heard of the horror stories. We live in the same world and people take everything for granted here. I hope things get better down there my brothers and sisters.

A handful of families in my church are from Eritrea. The culture is absolutely beautiful, the people are the kindest and most welcoming. They have a knack for being joyful at all times. I hope something changed and improves before too long.
  • its just sad knowing that they have dreams while i just sit at home and watch youtube everyday

I play soccer on Saturday's with a large group of Eritreans in Dallas TX and they are some of the coolest guys I've met. I consider them my brothers. They've talked a little about what they had to endure, but seeing this let's me feel their pain. Beautiful ppl.
