In this Drum Lesson you will learn the basics of drum notation. I will keep this easy and not go into too much detail here, since this isn't about being able to sight read. This is about being able to see a notation, decipher it and then play it.

I'm 67 years old and I have a better understanding of drum notation after reviewing this video. Good instructions thanks.

“Think of a song as a story, and a bar is a sentence.” You have a gift my friend lol

    Well,I'm a drummer and I don't know how to read notes that's why I am here😂
  • @lukeoakey
Been playing drums for 5 years now and I know how to read music but it’s always good to go back to the basics
  • Very well done tutorial. Simple, concise, straight to the point. Well shot, clear, useful. Nice work!

I am super grateful for this. I am new to drumming and my parents want me to learn how to read music before they buy me a drum set. I can now show them what each note means. So with that.. You just earned me a drum set :) Thx!

Thanks. Very clear lesson. I had just started reading the drum notation, so it helped a lot. How did you know?

Two minutes in and this is already exactly what I'm looking for to demystify the whole drum notation thing! (Guitarist/pianist who can read music a little and programme drums a bit but wants to be able to write down drumbeats in a notepad on the fly when I'm at work or otherwise away from my DAW)
  • I've been playing for nearly 10 years and I've never even looked at drumming notation before. You made it very easy to understand for someone who isn't used to it. I feel like I've wasted so many years without this skill.
  • @TreasureTrain
this lesson was so clean and on point, it felt like 5 minutes

I pretty much taught myself when I was a kid and haven't played since the mid 70s, now that I'm retired I figured maybe try to get back into it and even learn to read a little. Great video, thanks!
  • @nenyalekent
It's been 3years but if u see this I want to tell that I'm going to learn drum to play in the church and I'm going to learn from your video thankyou 😊stay safe ❣️.

As a bass player , this is extremely intresting. Nice and informative video!
  • This is totally awesome. Please make this a series, or at least part one of a multipart video. So we can get the full lesson, of all the advanced notation, so there’s nothing left to know after we’re done with the last video. Thanks so much!

Learning notation simply enables drummer to understand job of other drummers and perform her/his piece of music. Your video is a useful guide. Thanks for shooting I suggest people to be brave, hold paper&pen and notate. It will not take more than 3 times of failure then things will seem more practical
