Didn't even notice them sneaking up on me!

✤✤ Welcome to “TDubs Outdoors”

In this short clip, I was so focused on the tree branch ahead of my kayak that I didn't even notice I had two visitors sneaking up on me. Manatees are awesome and many times curious, but remember to respect them, give them their space and don't touch them. Manatees can move freely through saltwater, brackish and freshwater. These two manatees were encountered in completely freshwater.

I’d have to imagine that’s best case scenario for something in Florida stalking you
  • Count your blessings AND thank God they weren't a pair of equally big Alligators
  • @RH-sb5co
Had a Manatee by the boat for 45 minutes wanting to be petted then rolled over wanting it's belly scratched, like a big ole dog. I'll never forget.

At first i thought they were alligators and im thinking you have to be crazy or stupid to be in a boat that small with alligators on those waters instead it turns out they were manatees which is by far the best case scenario here

I thought they were alligators about to tag team you. 😂

Your kayak might look like a fellow manatee, from underwater and at a distance. They probably wanted to say hello.
  • @james3339
They’re cows. No sneaking. Just grazing

I used to go to Crystal River every February to see some manatees with my kids and they are beautiful creatures, most of the time the mothers will swim by us with their babies, it’s so cute
  • The two closest show evidence of being hit by boats. Not as common as it used to be, but ir happens.

You can see the wound on the ones back. Poor creatures do not hurt anyone, and should be protected better.
