"Let's Take A Lap!" with Grant Howard- High Boy at Alta

Published 2023-03-08
Today's Episode is more in line with the original "LTAL" idea. That is, one complete run, traverses and all, on the legendary and iconic Alf's High Rustler, AKA High Boy!
I linked up with Grant at the end of the day after being in UT for three days, followed him out the High Traverse, and then followed him down a chalky and firm but ripping version of High Boy. I only got one run with Grant on this visit and it was a fun one, not about big airs, or tricks, just technical skiing in some tricky terrain.

Filmed at Alta early Feb. with Gopro 11 and DJI Osmo Action 3.

It’s reassuring that you get the cardio kicking like a normal human. You make it look effortless and it sometimes feels like you’re operating in different physics.
  • When you are showing a master class of skills, it looks easy. In reality, to ski it like that takes much finesse, strength and agility. Well done making a tough run look easy.

This series is so relatable. Hard to identify with the giant lines of AK but all of us can relate to heading up with the boys (and girls) to yo-yo a great spot on our local hill.
  • Those high up skied out traverses are the trickiest shit on the mountain, hands down...skiing them at speed like that with all the little airs and bumps is about 1000x harder than it looks, freaking impressive lap.

The gopro effect makes things look less steep and less difficult than they are in reality. This lap looked very steep and very difficult, so... I can only imagine how many times I would have died trying to follow :-). Fantastic work. Keep these lap videos coming!

So fun to see someone on YouTube who knows what they’re doing. It’s inspiring. I’ve done that run a bunch of times, it’s great to have a new way to look at it. Thanks
  • How could you not subscribe after seeing this masterclass? Way above my paygrade, but it does make you want to stretch your personal comfort zone a notch, each time you are out! Amazing skiing.

Dang!! I skied that run a couple weeks ago but I was solo and I didn't know you could continually pop those side hits ughhhh that looks JUICY!! Saves so much time to rip that ridge on the right side mid point of the traverse too another nice tip. Thanks for sharing.

That is some Rodeo ride 😂 People are going down the mountain but not arround the mountain 😂 Nice ride 🎉 Also ski tracks everywhere under every Christmas tree 😂 No place for bears to hide anymore 😂 That all mountain is "black skull " run which requires good legs and a good helmets 😁 You guys ski Aces
