I used to care, now I don't. They already killed all the franchises I cared about.

You know what was a diverse film? Predator. 3 white guys, THREE black guys, TWO Native Americans, and a Mexican lady. And they're all f'ing legendary.
  • It's funny, because Disney was way better at being "inclusive" when they weren't even trying.
  • @Nyxcha
Atlantis the Lost Empire: had PERFECT diversity. and they didnt even try or mention it. it just happened NATURALLY. cause they all fit their roles PERFECTLY

No one cared about Guardians of the Galaxy until they made a great movie. It's not that these new characters are B or C list, it's that the movies are shit. Guardians proved that you can make an absolute hit with low tier characters by just making great movies.

They don't write characters. They write diversity check boxes.

We had a woman present the pre-ANZAC day speech at my daughters school today. ANZAC day in australia is specifically about the men who died in gallipoli during World War I. The first 3 minutes of a 4 minute speech was about women in the army in the 80s and how they aren't allowed to be in combat situations even though, and i quote, "women can do all the things men do in the army". She spoke about how women would need to leave the army if they fell pregnant. Regardless of validity of any of what she said is, ANZAC day is not the vehicle to use for gender politics to a primary school with kids aged 6-12. This is essentially what Disney is doing. Using the wrong vehicle to spread a message. It's messed up.

It really just comes down to 2 things. 1. Changing existing source material. 2. "The difference of doing a gay character and a character that is gay."
  • @mityakiselev
"So, we made this movie about a character~" "Oh, neat! What's her backstory?" "She's a girl" "Uhh I mean like what's her motivation?" "She is a STRONK girl" "You mean she has flaws but overcomes them by sheer force of will?" "No, I mean she's perfect in every way" "OK... what does she do in the movie?" "Uhh... (to the side) what does she actually do? (out loud) She... does stuff, yeah" If a character's entire point is a label, there is no character to that character

Nothing like watching a Batman movie and they start talking about bs "white privilege".
  • @shadyc7044
When people think of beloved strong female lead characters... I would bet that MOST people first think of Ripley from Alien. Tell me how many times her character points out that she's strong and/or female.
  • Imagine if Peter Jackson gave interviews crapping on Lord of the rings and telling everyone that he never read the books.

As a Mexican i can say, blue beetle failed because of the pandering, they really tried to sell it like "he's the first mexican super hero, and it talks about colonialism, you know because he's mexican, if you don't watch it then you're racist" As soon as we heard the director say that we turned our head, we seriously don't need to be pandered to

Holy shit the guy on the right called the Black woman "Candace Owens Jr."
  • @yaboiportch
"Nobody gives a shit about She-Hulk!" Nobody gave a shit about Iron Man until 2008, either. The difference is that Iron Man was made with talent and care, while She-Hulk was used as a mouthpiece for talentless wine aunt writers.

as a tunisian this is very annoying for me , they have replaced every single historical north african as black west african in mainstream movies/series which is a totally erasure of us .
  • @Kepesk
It's not that people hate minority characters, it's that people hate badly written characters.
  • @UncensoredScion
no one asks the right questions in these situations because they want to appear to be right and smart rather than doing whats needed 11:18 The question to ask him here is a simple one "Why is it important to have a diverse cast?" Why does it matter? He'll respond with "to identify with the characters we need representation." You then respond with "so you're saying minorities cannot identify with characters that don't look like them?" Because that's what the source of this is on the face of it - it isn't the actual reality but that's an aside - the point that needs t obe made is that these people are saying "I can only identify if I see someone like me on screen." and to do it to as big an audience as possible while saying you are the opposite. "doesn't matter to me what they look like, white black blue yellow green pink it doesn't matter, it's the person that's important not what they look like, you can identify with John MacLane equally as much as you can Mike Lowrey or Ip Man. If you think you can't do that without them looking like you, I'm sorry but you're the bigot." and let that be the end of it.
