The ceremony honoring retiring Philadelphia 76ers superstar Julius "Dr. J" Erving prior to the Sixers' game against the Indiana Pacers on April 17, 1987 at Philadelphia's Spectrum. The ceremony and game were broadcast in Philadelphia on PRISM with Gene Shue and Jim Barniak.

The ceremony was hosted by legendary Philadelphia broadcaster Al Meltzer and had appearances by Patti Labelle, Maurice Cheeks, Pennsylvania Governor Bob Casey, Philadelphia Mayor Wilson Goode, Rod Thorn

During the game, Erving hit the 30,000 point mark in his career, scoring a game-high 38 points. The Pacers, however, spoiled Erving's night, winning the game 115-111.
