Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised investment in natural gas in Vietnam during his visit, fresh from a stop in North Korea where he signed off on a landmark deal on mutual assistance. CNA spoke to Nguyen Khac Giang, Visiting Fellow of the Vietnam Studies Programme at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, for his analysis on the Russian leader's visit to Asia.

    When Russia visit a country you can see a sincere partnership between country however when China visit a country its other way around.

    Vietnam always has the best feelings for Russia, Russia helped them a lot during the war. Unlike the Cambodians who were grateful to Vietnam for gaining independence for them, helping them avoid a genocidal disaster.

    Russia 🇷🇺 (formerly USSR) and Vietnam 🇻🇳 had a Mutual Defense Agreement when China invaded Vietnam in 1979. At that time, most Vietnamese fighting forces were still in Cambodia. But Russia did nothing to help! What a shame!

    N Korea’s recent history of illegal wars, occupations, regime change, and proxy wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc..…is a legitimate cause for concern.
