Easy Butter Board Recipe! The new Viral Charcuterie Board - Perfect Appetizer

Published 2024-04-25
Creating a "world's best" butter board is a tall order, but it sounds like a delicious challenge! A butter board is essentially a creative way to serve flavored butter as an appetizer or snack, akin to a charcuterie board but with butter taking center stage. Here’s a recipe that incorporates a blend of flavors and textures to delight your taste buds. Let's go for a mix of savory, sweet, and spicy, with a touch of freshness:
The Ultimate Butter Board Recipe
Ingredients:

For the Base:
1 cup high-quality unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
For the Savory Flavors:
2 tablespoons fresh herbs (chives, rosemary, and thyme), finely chopped
1 teaspoon garlic, minced
Sea salt flakes, to taste
Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
For the Sweet Flavors:
2 tablespoons honey
Zest of 1 orange
For the Spicy Kick:
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon finely chopped jalapeño (optional for extra heat)
For the Freshness:
Edible flowers (such as violets or marigolds) for garnish
Fresh berries (blueberries, raspberries)
For Serving:
A variety of breads (baguette slices, sourdough, crackers)
Sliced fruits (apples, pears)
Nuts (walnuts, almonds)

Instructions:

Prepare the Butter Base:
On a large wooden board, spread the softened butter evenly with a spatula, creating a smooth canvas for your ingredients.

Add the Savory Flavors:
Sprinkle the chopped herbs, minced garlic, sea salt, and black pepper over half of the butter base. Use a knife or a small spatula to lightly mix them into the top layer of the butter on that half, creating a marble effect.

Incorporate the Sweet Flavors:
Drizzle honey and sprinkle orange zest over the other half of the butter. Gently swirl them into the butter for a beautiful and delicious infusion.

Add the Spicy Kick:
On one quarter of the board (splitting between savory and sweet), sprinkle the red pepper flakes and chopped jalapeño, if using. Lightly press them into the butter to ensure they stick.

Garnish for Freshness:
Decorate the board with edible flowers and fresh berries, placing them strategically for visual appeal.

Serve and Enjoy:
Surround the butter board with your chosen accompaniments: slices of bread, fruit, and nuts. Provide small knives or spreaders for guests to use.

Final Touches:
Encourage guests to mix and match the flavors by spreading the butter on their choice of bread or fruit, creating their own unique taste experience.

This butter board combines a variety of flavors and textures, making each bite a unique experience. Adjust the ingredients based on your personal taste preferences or dietary restrictions. The beauty of a butter board lies in its versatility and the joy of sharing it with others. Enjoy crafting your masterpiece and, most importantly, sharing and enjoying it with friends and family!

Folks, I'll note that butterboards were big last summer. Bon appetit, epicurious and a couple of other sites did their own takes on it. So, chat GPT was not wrong.. It was just off by about 6 months lol. And if it was truly disgusting, those food sites would never have touched this trend. I'm glad our host liked it so much!

Never heard of it before. the butter doesn't make sense to me - I think I would use cream cheese instead. And use a serving bowl or platter - good luck cleaning that board. Anyway, great vid, Dave. Food for thought (get it?).
