Winter camping & backpacking in a snowstorm, blizzard - heavy snowfall extreme weather forest tent camping in the north, no fire, cold tent, high winds, survival. 25 m/s, 56 mph, 90 km/h.

Cold tent winter camping during a snow storm in the northern wilderness. The forecast said 25m/s or 56mph winds. I choose snow shoes again since it makes filming easier than if I was using skis.
I walked out into the forest in a break in the storm and set up camp, getting ready for the heavy snowstorm that was coming in through the night. It turned into a massive storm but I had found a sheltered place for my camp in the trees. I also built a snow wall to shelter behind for the eastern winds. Quite an interesting trip that ended in a mixture between rain and sleet. Extended version coming soon.

Gear list for this trip is towards the end of the video.

About me: I am a Norwegian adventurer and wilderness explorer. My youtube channel focus on outdoor wilderness adventures and exploration, backpacking, hiking, canyoneering, skiing, climbing and mountaineering. Nights spent in a tent, alone or with friends. From the snow covered mountains and misty fjords of Norway and Scandinavia to the remote plateaus of Yellowstone and the debts of the red canyons of Utah to the summit of Mt Whitney and the heart of Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park. I love the Wilderness! Email is under "For business inquiries", for general questions please comment on a video, I try to answer everyone.

  • This was great! I’m 63 and I still love winter camping in the snow. No hot tent, no Little Buddy heater. Just my 2 man tent, my -45 degree sleeping bag, my jet boil, with grub & coffee!

Love the idea of the isolation. No television, no depressing news, no mobile phone, no music, no humans. As long as I had some chocolate, I would love it. 😊
  • Enjoyed watching this at 8.30pm in my armchair drinking a large whisky in the warm. Lovely.

To think our ancestors survived this for generations with no modern equipment or supplies is truly mind blowing. We're so out of touch.
  • This man walks trough deep snow like he is walking on a beach. Effortlessly. And keep in mind when you film by yourself the trip is twice as long and sometimes three times as long. Walk ahead and place the camera. Walk back and then go forward towards the camera. Then go back and retrieve the camera and do it again and again and again. Brilliant filming. Just amazing.
  • My feet always get cold unless I'm in room temperature. When my feet are cold, the rest of me feels cold. I'm glad you can enjoy this. I love the idea of it with the storm sounds. Thanks for not adding music.
  • It looks sooo cold even inside the tent. Amazing how something made of fabric can shelter a person in bad weather. That's a pretty sturdy well made tent. I'd like to see someone build an igloo to ride out a blizzard in. This was a good one. Thanks for posting it.
  • We were in our cabin 2 weeks ago in the UP of Michigan in an exact same type of blizzard. We had the wood stove burning away, nowhere to go and we loved it!! You're brave to be in a tent. The howling of the winds was so relaxing. Good video, I enjoyed it!
  • I love to watch winter camping in snow but I just can't understand why anyone would put themselves through it lol. I wouldn't be able to sleep for those high winds and I can't stand being cold. You're a brave man x

I agree . Very cozy and fun. I do add one other piece, a 6 shot 44 with a 4” barrel. Very comforting

Thank you for another awesome winter storm video. Hardcore camping at its best!
  • @TheRichtaber
Excellent quality gear list! Your sleeping bag and tent are top of the line. I say, “buy once, cry once”.

Aaahh, relaxing during a snow storm. The right time for an ice cream.

In weather like this there is no such thing as an EXPENSIVE Hilleberg tent, especially when it's providing reliable 5-Star Shelter during a strong gusty rain/snow /wind storm. It quite remarkeable that anyone can manufacturer a shelter that withstands the kind of weather you not only endured, but filmed for us to enjoy. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada - we got 4" of snow the past 2-days/nights.
  • This is my top favourite camping video on YouTube! Ive lost count how many times ive re-watched this vid. Puts me to sleep in minutes wraped up in my blanket in bed pretending im out in the snow in a blizzard
  • Almost had to put on coat to watch. Happy New Year Jarl!!!

This was great! I'm 87 and I still love winter camping in the snow. No hot girls, no stinky weed. Just my hand and my wee little willy!
