This is like that time VeggieTales used fan renders in an actual episode lol
  • @AccelerateHedge
I'm pretty sure this is a placeholder. The same thing happened to Sonic Colors: Ultimate. Not to mention, this is leaked footage. It's possible that this was only meant to be seen internally.

They have fanart as placeholders most of the time. It’s not supposed to be on the final product
  • @Sonal73
The creator said he was honored to have his render used for the game.
  • Ngl I would be happy and proud if my art got mistaken to be official on a product for a franchise I like
  • @traktor420
I think something similar happens with colours ultimate, a fanmade render of metal sonic was seen in an earlier trailer, but was replaced in the final release, wouldn’t be surprised if this is something similar

Fun Fact, if they use fanart without permission, consider that a sign that they care about thier fans without you realizing it
  • @BIastProcX
It's only a placeholder as this was leaked footage so this isn't really that big of a deal
  • Considering this is pre-release footage that was never even meant to be seen by the public, this is more than likely just a placeholder graphic one of the devs found with a quick Google search. But I mean, if your fanart is so good that the owners of the franchise mistook it for official artwork, take that as a compliment. ^^
  • They've done this many times. I remember this one Tweet about Team Sonic Racing where they used a fan made logo.

given fan art is a fan work for an IP sega owns, and I hate to say this....legally they're allowed to use fan art, cause the characters belong to them, whether that makes it even shittier to steal fan art is up for debate, but also, as you said., this is an Alpha test of the game, they probably just used the image as a placeholder

“Oh man Loish this is worse than the time…” “WE USED A FANMADE CUTAWAY PETAH! SHUT IT DOWN”
  • @yucelonmaz2
Why does every time sonic fans see a fan made thing in a official product they go crazy, like it's obviously a placeholder OMG!!!
  • @ProjectNB
Dude, that's a blessing, imagine your own fanart just in a real game.

Likely a placeholder, and also this trailer was leaked early, so it most definitely isn't 1:1 with how the proper official announcement trailer will look like (it also fades out early at the end), so obviously some things had to be thrown together quick for proposal purposes, on top of the gameplay obviously being preliminary of course. Sonic Colors: Ultimate has a few leftover files in-game that depict fanmade renders of both Super Sonic and Classic Tails (respectively from Nibroc-Rock and Mike9711), and they were only meant to be placeholders as well; I can really only knock up this instance only being tied to the Toys Party trailer being leaked and such, as it wasn't intended to be publically seen in the state it was in.

This footage is 1 year old so its most likely a placeholder.
