California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s statewide executive order to remove homeless encampments prompts a natural question of whether Washington is far behind, given the recent Supreme Court decision and the state’s continued challenges in the crisis.

It is also now likely to be part of a political debate as voters decide about who should be the next governor.

In a lengthy statement to KOMO News, Gov. Jay Inslee suggested he will not follow Newsom’s order with anything similar.

  • Image how much easier and cheaper this would be if the Governor and like minded city governments had not actively supported the establishment of these camps.
  • @stevelong-rr7re
California has a budget deficit of 76 billion and 47 billion in unaccounted lost dollars with a unfunded liabilities of close to one trillion dollars 🤣🤣😂😂
  • But if the encampments are removed, what then will be the money source for organizations grifting from the homeless crisis?
  • why wasn’t it done 10 yrs ago, more important, where will they go
  • @jimjr6919
How come this only comes up during election season??
  • I am all for it myself but you need a plan. If you clean out the encampments what happens to the homeless people there? They will still be there roaming the streets, panhandling, stealing doing whatever they have to to survive. Throw them all in jail because it is now a crime to be homeless. Even for those who did not choose homelessness but were driven out by high rents? Give me some answers what you are going to do with the people after you clear out the encampments.
  • Real estate speculators put the nation in this bind; but now the state has to pay for the cleanup? Something tells me this will never end with that outcome...

Well I guess Oregon and Washington will have some new tenants arriving soon. Something else to fleece the tax payers for.

It cant be all carrot and no stick. Unless there are consequences for living like this, they will never change.

Something must be done. Homeless people should be treated with a recognition of their dignity as fellow citizens. But the problem is multifaceted.
