  • Thank you for posting. Read his history many decades ago and was inspired to do a degree in philosophy, which I am so grateful I did! A great philosopher and political activist.

I read Mr. Russell's book WHY I'M NOT A CHRISTIAN. In the 1990s. I borrowed it @ the Hawaii State Library.

Bertrand Russell was a freethinker who was ahead of his time, and a compassionate human being. Those qualities still render him as often maligned and under-appreciated in our backward time, where lack of compassion is still a hallmark.
  • That can also be applied to spirituality and spiritual seekers😊. I love Russell❀
  • Philosophy demands critical engagement. Criticise continue criticise criticise philosophy. K.Marx.

One of the wisest man to have ever walked on this planet, studying Russell changed me entirely.
  • Philosophy is the driving force behind every major civilization and its ideologies, either they be religious or secular.

1:15 That's a picture of Newton's The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, not Russell's (and Whitehead's) The Principles of Mathematics.

He travelled to China in 1920s, and almost died there from illness. Many Locals heard that he was a sage from the west and wished to worship him after his death! He later said it was truly ironic when he doesn't believe in religion!

Wish all those ‘science & tech bros’ would read Russell’s excerpt; but they won’t bc it’s just easier to keep asserting that “philosophy doesn’t do anything.”
  • Maybe philosophy is the language of universe, mathematics is the idea and physics is the logic.
  • I have found Mr Russell to be an exemplary human being. But I do not agree with him on philosophy. I do agree that it does not provide results. It never answers any questions and it provides proof of nothing. I do agree it is a great excersize for the mind but thats where it should remain. I do not engage in philosophy as a questioning mind doesnt require it to grow. I contemplate are areas that I comprehend to exist but relegate these searches to be within what we know of facts and evidence. Ive found philosophy to be a mind trap for the ego. How many times does the philosopher think they can explain reality with no logical conclusions. How many apologists think they have evidence of imaginary friends through philosophy. It is running through rabbit holes and twisting defintions to serve the ego. Use it as an exercise like running is to physical exercise. But understand while it serves a purpose, like running exercise, it doesnt get you anywhere you are trying to go. It just goes in circles. After regular exercise then you can turn your mind onto the facts and evidence so as to produce results. Which is what Mr Russel did.
