  • Reminder that Tinkaton doesn't even get a super-effective attack to use against Corviknight. 😂
  • Onix is actually a masterpiece of design. Its design makes for a very intimidating Pokémon for children who are fighting the very first gym of the series, but its poor stats make it a very easy opponent to defeat. Basically, he is the Pokémon equivalent of fathers letting their children win a fight just to boost their self-confidence

Speed Stat isn't entirely just how fast they move, it's more about how fast you attack. For example vikavolt is fast, but he just might need a long charge up for an attack, hence low stats in speed
  • I'd say speed refers to reaction speed rather than movement speed. Diglett and Dugtrio have really good reaction speeds.

I always figured Tinkaton’s hammer was it’s species way of compensating for it’s own weak physical attack, which is where Gigaton Hammer comes in. Tinkaton itself is naturally weak, but is smart enough to create tools, more specifically the hammer to fight, creating it’s signature move in the process.

I'm a big fan of the theory that pokemon stats are representative of their abilities specifically in battle. For example, Latios and Latias may be able to fly as fast as jets but it would be hard to make it to top speed in the confines of a battle.
  • In Spiritomb’s case, it does make sense that it isn’t overwhelmingly powerful. It was introduced in Gen 4, when the typing of Ghost/Dark had no weaknesses.
  • For any of the attack/special attack stat facts, remember that any pokemon before Diamond and Pearl had to reflect that the physical special split hadn't happened. This is why Shedinja has high attack, ghost was physical type attacks.
  • In german, the speed stat is called "Initiative", which describes the ability to REACT fast, not to run fast. Also, the japanese word translates to Agility
  • @dridermaster
For speed you left out Dragonite. It has dex entries stating it can circle the globe in 16 hours (timezone changes aside to be assumed) and has multiple instances referencing this (like the mail dragonite zipping around in the first movie) yet it has a base speed of 80. This is a speed stat tied with Mamoswine, a giant Pig-Mammoth, with short thick legs.

The funny thing about Pidgeot is that in Pokémon Masters, Blue is seen chasing his, saying something like “it just ran off really fast”, meaning that Blue may have run at Mach 2
  • @DracoAries
I never saw the speed stat as a Pokémon's physical speed, but rather their reaction speed in battle. So to me it makes sense that you see Pokémon like Varoom and Veluza moving at high speeds in Scarlet and Violet despite their bad speed stats; there are two different kinds of speeds in the game.
  • @BuThUb
Onyx makes perfect sense. It's the ace of the first boss in the game. They wanted it to be intimidating but manageable.

I've come to better terms with a lot of weird Speed stats once I started looking at it as a "reaction time" stat instead. This line of thinking gets much more obvious with Dugtrio, it ducks quickly back into the ground before you can hit it, like whack-a-mole.

To put the speed of Pigiot into context, Mach 2 is the max speed of the Euro fighter Typhoon with afterburners on. Fighters normally don't fight at their max speed though. Sure the F-15 and Mig-29 have the bird beat at around Mach 2.3 and the Foxhound at nearly mach 3 but damn that bird is insanely fast.
  • @Azure852
'HOW FAST IS THIS HAMSTER" got me dying🤣🤣🤣🤣
  • Rayquaza has 95 of speed and Salamance has 100. Simisear, Simisage and Simipour all have 101 of speed.
  • @seandewar47
I have a feeling that he'll mention Vikavolt when it comes to speed. The reason why Vikavolt is so slow is because it's a railgun, which are known to be insanely slow to fire
