Special-Needs Riders Endure Slow Service on Paratransit Vans

Imagine what it would feel like to sit in a bus for three-plus hours for a 14-mile ride. Then imagine what it's like for a disabled person. For many, that is a near-daily reality. Juliette Goodrich reports. (5-17-18)

  • I've pick him up many of times I've never got him home late that is crazy! 3 hrs is why to long! I wish he was still my passenger.
  • Drivers need to be paid more and offered a retirement. In my city, the Paratransit drivers seem really stressed out. They have a tight schedule and are only allowed to wait five minutes in front of someone's house. I've heard of drivers leaving after a couple of minutes. They have too many customers to pick up in one day. I live 20 minutes from work. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes to get home, let several times it's taken over two and a half hours to get home. I'm really appreciative of the services, as I would not be able to work.
  • @patsmith378
I am about a month away from starting my new job as a para transit driver.
  • i am an ex employee.the answer to this problems is the unprofessional, unexperience mr.Jetters dispatch dept. this dispatchers that came after Mr.Jetter came to paratransit are very unprofessional Mr.Jetter gave the go ahead to wait list clients that is what this dispatchers do when instead of finding an available drvr and let this clients seat on waitlist past their pick up time could be Dr.appoinments are need to be at dialysis then move them way past their appt. time one to two hours late give it to a drvr that @ the end of town instead of looking for one that is closer the answer to this problem is closing this Dept.and let providers professional dispatchers like it was before and things will get 75 % better or more this providers dispatchers know their drivers and routes and areas and are more considerate.not as rude and loud to drivers like Mr.Jetter dispatchers that due to their bad experience drivers miss breaks and lunch breaks and customer Service Dept get all the yelling and verbal abuse from clients due to late pick ups and getting to their destination late no management will do nothing to this matter that is why i quit the pay is not enough for all of the problems the other Depts. have to deal due to this Dispatch Dept.hope some thing get done to better improve this service
  • You outsource a public service to a for profit company this is what you get. They look at it this way just like any other transit service the more people on a bus/ train at once to more money you make the less waste of my money or resources.
  • If we want better public transportation, we have to provide funding for it. Having more drivers would cut down on the onboard wait time, but where are the funds to pay more drivers?
  • All bus service is slow. That's why public transportation is not very popular. Special transport is even worse. Its a serious conundrum. Governments want you to ditch your car but don't have funding and are so slow. I want to ditch my car. Im sick of cost and congestion. Speed it up. Your only making traffic worse and costs skyrocket. Why is Europe light years ahead of us?
  • take bus paratanis now school,m home pull up 604 alcalde court fremont ca 800am thurday friday every day nowok
  • @tuvoca825
That kid gets sropped off first now, but the problem isn't fixed. Hire more drivers. Stop blaming the ones who show up to help.
  • This is pathetic, I've traveled to other countries and they have way better pubic transport services. For example Tokyo or Mexico City, you have so many options for public transport and its fast and efficient. The real reason why public transport is a joke in the USA is simple.....GREED. The Auto & Oil industry have had a big role in keeping public transport inadequate on purpose. How is it that other countries with much less money can have fully functioning reliable quality public transport and the USA can't, it doesn't make sense does it?
