We saw some questionable "game consoles" while browsing AliExpress, but when we found one that was being sold for about a thousand dollars, we knew we had to buy it. How many pirated games could it possibly hold, and just what do you get when you buy a Kinhank Super Console X G1?

  • I remember having one of those 99-games-in-1 handhelds back in the late 90s that was almost entirely just variations of Breakout, Space Invaders and Asteroids. The pirated fake console business has really improved since then.

Definitely feels like a "hey, we scored a couple cartons of gamer-y looking units from an HTPC company that went under for almost nothing, let's just load them up with illegal software and see how much we can sell them for" situation. Not the worst plan ever, to be fair, and if a couple other content-creators get curious enough to bite then it might even turn a profit if they invested little enough in the packaging and such.
  • You can find these at import shops all over the place, but not usually at this price. I think the highest i've seen was around $500 (in S.E. Michigan). A friend bought one that came with the complete library + Neo Geo CD library. Used a regular Neo Geo Case + 2 of the original huge ass controllers for $200 a few years ago. We never cracked it open but presumed it was using a raspberry pi inside and a sdcard for memory.

Holy Shit. I've not visited your channel in a good while (sold my PC & brought console) clicked on to watch this and you have over 15 million subscribers, you didn't even have a million when I fist subbed. Congratulations you're smashing it
  • i like how proud plouffe was about finding something linus could not immediately open.
  • The fact that Linus is having fun is a testament
  • The fact that you could choose any game on the Dreamcast that was iconic, like Sonic Adventures, or even Crazy Taxi, but you chose Power Stone, has made me very happy
  • If anyone is seriously unaware, the retro gaming hardware coming out of China for the last several years has been insane. The massive competition has basically come to handhelds that can play almost every system if you get the right device.
  • I'd totally watch a complete live stream of poor couch companionship and a play-thru of a ton of these games.

amazing, I really wanted to know more about this one! Browsing weird silly tech on aliexpress is lowkey a hobby of mine.
  • @exhumus
I have my Atari VCS running Batocera. That too was overpriced and underspecced, but I got on at the beginning of the Indiegogo campaign and those were more optimistic times. On the plus side, the money was long spent by the time I got my device so the pain was delayed (and at least I did at least get my device). It's also a cool looking box to play retro games on even if it's worthless in its native console mode.
  • Linus' strategy of not "endorsing" piracy but showing off stuff like this is amazing.
  • These seems to be spare Chatreey mini PCs they used to sell last year for 500-800 bucks equipped with either GTX 1650 or RTX 2060, pretty good value back then.
  • This is what you call game preservation by those who did this console. You can just play all old title and dont have to do some sketchy stuff yourself to play everything. Love it.
  • If this thing was like $100-$200, I'd consider an emulator box preloaded with stuff. It would save time/effort getting retroarch set up and everything downloaded on something. But $1k is nuts. JSRF is one of my favorite games of all time, and this seems to run it pretty well. I think this is a decent product, but the price is just too high.

Not only do PS2 controllers have analog face buttons, they have inbuilt calibration firmware for the joysticks. They almost never got stick drift because any drift was calibrated for every time the controller powers on. That's why sometimes you would have to wiggle the sticks around for them to be centered properly.
  • @_l3rN
It actually having that many games on one of these preloaded rom stations is the biggest plot twist of all time.
  • @ZesPak
I've had a Miyoo Mini for over a year now, which can only run stuff pre-PS1. It came preloaded with over 5000 games on a micro SD. The SFC/SNES had 1500 in them on it's own. As far as I've seen, only a few duplicates.
  • Great video. Didn’t expect to watch all of it but had me cracking up. Love y’all’s whit!
