It was literally, one of the best series ever and they ruined it... Such a shame ! They strayed from the original story which was, a lighthearted romantic comedy with awesome twists to the murders...

Actually Beckett was always an integral part of the show. Castle without Beckett is like Bones without Booth.

Castle without Beckett is nothing. Their interplay was everything, that's why I loved the show.
  • Castle, the near perfect show, ended after season 7 as far as I'm concerned. The 8th season was a complete disaster. It took seven years to build their relationship and the writers destroyed it in the first episode of season 8. Excuse me? What idiot came up with that idea? The show was named Castle but Beckett was the main character for the whole time. The idea of not bringing her (and, for that matter, Tamala Jones) back for season nine was total lunacy. Fortunately, with the first 7 seasons on DVD, I can watch the near perfect show as many times as I want.

when you title a video "what really went wrong..." people assume that you're actually going to shed some light on truth among the speculation. an expose of sorts. this was literally just compiling the various theories people have made... disappointing.

Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion had the most amazing chemistry on screen....Its really hard to believe there were tensions between them.Being a die hard Castle fan for years...Its not fair.

I miss this show so much. Seasons 1-5 were an amazing piece of tv history

I still contend that Beckett was the hero and Castle the comic sidekick.

It began to die when Castle "disappeared"
  • @SargentRay
So in other words you have no clue why the show was cancelled !
  • "Things went wrong" well before Katic's firing in Season 9. New show runners in Season 7/8 changed everything from the wardrobe to characterizations, and dramatically increased the soap opera elements of abductions, memory loss and on-again-off-again relationships for no rational reason. The fact that Ryan was no longer the always-on-point snappy dresser he had been for 6-7 seasons was a subtle hint that things were going to go downhill fast.

What killed Castle was the rotten cliffhanger and stupid storyline that had Rick in an accident and abducted. Give me a break. I almost didn't come back the next season because I was worried these jerks would do it again. When they start using cliffhangers, they get greedy. Until then, I thoroughly enjoyed the show and looked forward to it every week. However, my life is not so sad that I have to spend a summer worrying what happened to a main character. I never gave a toss about who shot JR and I haven't changed . Nor do I care what kind of garbage the media rags choose to send out about supposed behind the scenes interactions. A lot of people were furious about the cliffhanger and expressed it on social media. Many of them were done with the series and meant it. I personally dvr'd the next season and did not watch it until I was sure there were no cliffhangers. Sadly, I could do nothing about the lousy abduction story or the equally idiotic "pretend to be apart to save his life" story.

After Castle disappeared on his wedding day (and the weak storyline behind that stupid plotline), I lost interest in the show.  It stopped being about cases, and the main characters, and became a show about The Big Bad.  The Big Bad is what shows turn to when they've run out of ideas.

I LOVED Castle for the first three seasons. But once they started to make Castle more like a cop and it became like a regular procedural, I started to lose interest. What made the show great initially, is that you had a writer out of his element that could still hold his own because of his deduction skills. Yet he was clearly not a cop, had his own life as a writer, etc..

I miss Stana! I hope a new show is her future.

Originally, the show was a lighthearted romantic comedy. The "murders" were creative. But then came the various "conspiracy" storylines......Kates Mother, Castle's Father, on and on and on. The show never got back to the original FUN! I stopped watching when the writers got stale and began recycling scripts from Law & Order and NCIS.

Castle died for me when their first wedding got cannceled due to Nathan being kidnapped. There was too much buildup only to ruin it through that. From this video, it seems, the problems only got worse after that.
  • @TheSighphiguy
"had become integral"? she NEVER "became" integral...she was 50% of the show from the get go.
  • @donniemoore2025
As much as I enjoyed the two characters getting together. It seemed they started writing Becketts character different. She seemed to become a bit silly. I hate to think that she was bullied like the story implies. I really dug her, she was the reason I watched the show.
