Now, let’s get something straight first up, the cars on this list aren’t necessarily standouts in their respective categories, they’re not the fastest or best handling, they’re not the most luxurious, they’re simply excellent cars that the majority of us have completely forgotten about.

But, as we’re recommending these cars and the $15,000 Aussie dollars budget is a bit tight, we’ve taken into account reliability, the cost of maintenance, their longevity, fuel consumption and their quality now that they’re all a few years old.

But we’re confident that if you find any of these with a full and thorough service history and the car is in great condition, you’ll be wrapped with what you end up with.

Also, even though this list is in numerical order, all of these cars are equal as they all offer something a little different, yes there’s a number 1 but it’s not necessarily the winner, unless you want it to be.

Here are out Top 5 UNDERRATED Cars under $15,000.

---

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.

Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.

Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are...you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.

So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.

We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

  • I know it's not too everyone's liking but the Toyota Rukus probably deserves a spot, it's a Camry engine in a practical wagon body and thanks to it's boxy tall shape it's actually a car you can genuinely walk into and sit down, great alternative for those with bad backs as opposed to an SUV.
  • If your talking underated hondas, a Honda legend would be great. VTEC v6 AWD. not sure if it was a grey import or not. Hot tip for a underated 4WD, hyundai terracan 😁 it has a low range gear box, wagon, with factory Lsd front and rear, factory bash plates underneath
  • Just sold my Honda Civic FD2 2006 2.0L to my neighbor, I been driving her for 6 years.. she’s super reliable never have an issue with the engine apart from AC…

Glad you mentioned the Kizashi. I've had my secondhand 6 speed manual sedan for 3 years, and now has over 200000 km on it. Still drives like new and gets great fuel economy. Only a couple of minor issues that have been easily fixed, mostly by myself.

New video to kick-start this beautiful morning. Thank you ReDriven team 🙏🏾
  • You do not know how excited I got when you mentioned the Rio. I have the 1.4, which is lower in power I will admit, but I've always waited for you to mention my car and you finally have. I love my Rio, even though the 1.4 isn't as powerful as the 1.6, it's got plenty of consistent torque between 2000rpm to 6000rpm that makes it such a joy to dry. I love it.
  • I owned a 3 year old Kizashi Sport awd back in the day. It was a great car, very underrated. Glad you included it in this list!
  • TOYOTA AURION, MOST UNDERATED CAR Beats falcons and commodores but uses less then 9L/100km For a big v6 sedan it's god damn amazing for the price.
  • Loving the channel, the content, the presenter (!) and the whole concept. Keep up the awesome work - the individual model vids are great and the 'Top 5' versions even better. And the bloopers are hilarious... :-)
  • @its.ak1bo
I LOVE this channel. Providing a really great, competent insight in such an entertaining and charming way is the perfect package. Keep it up! Best regards from Germany. *The bloopers on this one cracked me up. You should do a best-of-bloopers super cut.
  • Underrated 4x4 under $15k second generation Mitsubishi Pajero
  • Owned a Kiz for 5 years. Almost completely trouble free from 65-115k kms I think before I sold it due to surplus requirements after taking on custodianship of my dad's car after he moved into aged care. Things I loved about it: - Hewn from a rock - double seals on doors gave it that oh-so-solid closing thud. When cruising it was seriously silent, even on B grade roads. - Aside from the rock hard dash, interior surfaces were soft premium-esque - leather-like inserts on doors (yes, rear too), lined boot, lined bonnet (!), leather seats that were hardy yet supple as, especially after a good leather conditioner wipe. - CVT performance (more of that later) - yes, it was one of those CVT's (unlike the same awful Jatco unit in the Mitsu ASX) programmed really well - almost instantaneous response when paddle shifters actioned (even in Auto), faster than even some DCT's paddles I test drove. And the tranny never flared when slowing down after pedal to the metal (unlike that awful CVT in the Corolla before the current gen one). It was one CVT that dispelled the general nightmares of most CVT's! - Auto HID headlights (but more on lights later), auto wipers - both were bang on in calibration. - I had a white Prestige (2WD) one - man it was super sleek. No other Suzuki since has come close to the exterior classiness of this design - yes it was quite derivative perhaps even leaning on the Jetta, but executed so beautifully - I often just stood back and just admired its lines, especially from the side and rear. Things I didn't love: - The 18" wheels looked a million bucks, but took a hammering at the slightest bump of the gutter or worse when misjudging a roundabout even slightly. The number of times I cried after gutter rashing those beautiful OEM wheels 😞 - CVT delay when moving from D to R then back to D etc - it was apparently by design, but the 1.5-2sec delay in the gear engaging was stress-inducing in the shopping centre carpark with SUV soccer mums and cashed-up aggro bogan utes breathing down on you to exit or enter your spot during a 3 point turn. - ride was firm but generally pretty good handling bigger bumps, but strangely the smaller bumps (eg. cobblestones) really shook the car and was annoying for me, especially as I had to navigate a small cobblestone section home every day! - leather seats had barely any side support - you'd slide off going round a corner - it was insult to injury because the car handled like it was on rails and cornering limits were astoundingly high, just that you couldn't take advantage of it thanks to those damn slippery poorly supported leather seats! - engine performance was decent but not breathtaking - for such a well planted car I was always hankering for a bit of shove in the back eg. from a turbo ... - hi beam which were halogens (unlike the HID low beam) was rubbish, but that’s typical of non-Australian designed halogen headlights in general. All up, it was an enjoyable ownership, but I never quite got emotionally invested in it ...
  • You're right about the CL9 Honda Accord Euro. It is Hondas high water mark. EXCELLENT as a first car with stability control, front wheel drive (and climate/cruise) across both variants. The 3rd gen Rio is a cracker. It has about 20kw & 20Nm more than the same 1.6L motor in the 2nd gen Rio. This 103kw/167Nm donk can also be found in the less dynamic Hyundai Accent.
  • @JNEV333
I’d add in my newly acquired Volvo C30 T5 - cheap to purchase, quick for the class, comfortable, relatively practical, five cylinder sound, stylish!
  • Kizashi wasn't popular in Japan either, so they were adopted as undercover police cars. However, they're so rare that they're revealed to be undercover police cars, lol.
  • Cool video .... well picked cars ... actually I didn’t even know the first 2 existed.... well done on the pick of cars for this video.....
  • For SUVs, the Subaru Outback 2003 - 2009. Manuals have dual range and autos are pre-CVT. Very comfortable tourer and capable off the bitumen without using crazy amounts of fuel. May not meet the necessary level of obscurity to be called "under-rated".
  • You guys continue to highlight areas of the market that are often overlooked by the community. Thank you and great video! Looking forward to the performance car version of this list!
  • I've been thinking very hard but alas I'm unable to think of an worse cars they you can, you have me beat, well done.
  • @MrSymo66
Underrated hot hatches would be a great addition to the channel
