Knowing boat ramps are slick, especially this one, I’m amazed at how many people think 2wd trucks are sufficient. Also a reason why I will never own a 2wd lol. I live in FL and I know better lol

A cheap $40 tire inflator that you hook into your phone charger port comes in handy for 2WD vehicles. Drop your back tires from 35 to 20 psi and the traction is no longer a problem. They have settings so you can inflate the tires while you finish strapping your boat down, cleaning up, etc., before leaving the launch area

RWD pickups need limited slip rear end ... one of the most useful options for anyone pulling a trailer

Seeing how busy these lakes are, really makes me want to go to the city for some peace and quiet time.

I have a 3/4 ton 2WD truck but I put an air locker in the differential so I don't have traction problems at the ramp. I would have gotten a 4WD truck but I got a smoking deal on my truck.

I use a U-Haul to splash the boat in the spring and pull it in the fall (have a seasonal dock) up in Ontario Canada. Costs less than $100/yr and I don't have to deal with the expense of a truck. If you only need them a few times/yr it makes financial sense.

If the motor is still water, crank it up and push with the boat. I’ve done this on back down mud launches on the bayous of S. La.

Is there ever someone at the ramp camping out with a 4 wheel drive truck and backing skills? $10 to back your trailer and $25 to pull your 2WD out. I could work Saturday/Sunday and make a fortune and create a smoother more efficient ramp experience!

This channel is a great idea. I have always wanted a boat, but never owned one. This is an interesting to way to get a feel for some practical challenges while I save up.

Used to do that at the Jersey Shore, Island Beach State Park during summer when sand got like sugar, 4x4 w/permit only allowed to drive on beach, even w/4x4 had to let out air sometimes as low 15-12 lbs. for better ft. print, had to have portable air compressor or had one modified A.C. hooked up to work w/truck eng., much faster, going back to late 60s-80s, was in NEW JERSEY BEACH BUGGY ASSOC. miss those surf, jetty jockeying days in Barnegat Inlet !

They should treat the ramp like ice a little beach sand under the spinning wheel will help then sweep it up !😊
  • All those trucks having difficulty with pulling out their heavy boats appear to be 2-wheel drive with no limited-slip rear differential. If their rear wheels are slipping, they can engage their emergency brake 3 or 4 clicks to "fool" the rear end into delivering torque to BOTH rear wheels instead of just the one with the least traction. They may have to give it just a bit more go-pedal, but it works if you don't have 4-wheel drive!

U-Haul pickups aren’t uncommon up here in Toronto either (on Lake Ontario). See it all the time. 😁🇨🇦
  • @rightsideupvt
If you're going to be towing a boat, why not spring for the four-wheel drive?

Thanks to all the people who simply provided ballast when needed. "Help" doesn't have to be heroic, just timely.
