I'm sad they removed "huge tracts of land", because it's the perfect example of a joke that's inappropriate if you get the obscure adult movie reference, and otherwise totally innocuous - Minecraft has huge tracts of land.
  • The one Notch related splash that should have been kept in is "made by Notch". Even with his controversies, he still needs to be remembered for making Minecraft in the first place.

I was once watching my brother load Minecraft while eating a cookie. His splash text at that time was "put that cookie down". Another time, the power just came back from an outage. The splash was "online". Ironic
  • Wow, he went an entire video without saying “the oldest anarchy server in Minecraft.” I don’t know if I’m disappointed or impressed…

Can't believe the "Technoblade never dies!" splash text was actually implemented. Rest in peace, technoblade.

I wasn't aware just how sterilized Minecraft had become. The splash text isn't game breaking by any stretch, but it does add a lot of character. This was inevitable after the Microsoft buyout, though.
  • Honestly it's really sad in my eyes they removed "Happy birthday, Notch!". Say what you want about the man or what he posts, I feel like that tiny bit of credit of having a splash on his birthday would still be an extremely respectful move. It doesn't matter much but just something I thought about.

I think they went overboard about the team making the game more family friendly by not just the splash text but everything else. But relating to the splash text, I think its okay to remove some to avoid lawsuits and whatnot.
  • Bethesda should somehow sue themselves for naming a game the exact same title as another game after suing Mojang for “Scrolls” being too similar to “The Elder Scrolls”
  • I find the "Switches and ores" to be absolutely hilarious. I'm sure that it would go over most people's heads, it took me a while to get it, and you were specifically pointing it out, too.
  • @Havana-8
Yeah, as a russian I can admit that mojang did it. It wasn`t software leaving my country, wasn`t many popular shops, wasn`t half of my friends losing jobs. Nah, it was the impossibility of seeing "Привет, Россия!" in my game that made me think it`s all that. Yeah, mojang totally nailed it.
  • My theory/hc: "Undocumented" referred to the source code. One guy at Mojang decided to go in and document every part of the source. After months (or more likely: years), they let him proudly remove the splash.
  • @deathpacito6
The removal of the splash text "Undocumented!" was truly undocumented.

I think some of them should stay in the game, like some notch references and the Привет Россия, I mean yes its a bit controversial because of the current situation but it's not like the splash text is showing support to the war or something. This is especially critical when the same company has a whole China edition. So yes don't get why those were removed.
  • @Gaming32i
As for Undocumented, Mojang had taken steps to make the game's source code more easily accessible, so that may be related.
  • I'm okay with them trying to make the game's UI more family friendly but again, the censorship of words in servers should be regulated by the server staff, not Microsoft.
  • @MCisAwesome95
Honestly I think making the game more family friendly by removing certain splash texts is completely unnecessary as children won't tend to get the joke or reference anyway. Plenty of games have quiet jokes that adults get immediately yet doesn't make the game any less family friendly

It’s kinda sad they had to do Notch like that :( I mean, love or hate him, he’s the one who started Minecraft. At least give him that!
  • @Moxilock
Undocumented actually has a really good reason for being removed, however the developers at Mojang believed that they should be true to the splash text itself, and thus the circumstances were forgotten
