Jazz Vinyl pickups from Blue Note, some audiophile Beach Boys and a Mark Knopfler box set

Published 2021-10-06
New from Blue Note, Eric Dolphy's 'Out to Lunch' and Herbie Hancock's 'Maiden Voyage', both from the Classic series. Also picked up The Beach Boys' 'Surfer Girl' and 'Little Deuce Coupe' from Analogue Productions and an 11LP box set from Mark Knopfler. I should have mentioned the names of the albums in this box: Golden Heart (1996), Sailing to Philadelphia (2000), The Ragpicker's Dream (2002), Shangri-La (2004), Kill to Get Crimson (2007), Gravy Train - The B-Sides 1997-2007. All remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road and pressed on 180g vinyl.

  • Great commentary, I enjoyed this very much. I have the Classic Belafonte set and really enjoy it. The Blue Notes, well, I'm having some difficulty getting into these, but I found more to like in the Dolphy. Fantastic sound though and mine is quiet as can be. I have a video coming up tomorrow in those. I've heard the stereo Surfer Girl is great! Might pick that up soon. Thanks for a great video!
  • Nice video overview of these releases! I have a Bellafonte on the Classic 45, and it is a really great listening experience. Check out Bellafonte Sings the Blues if you have an already, that's a great one too. I had a little trouble with the new Blue Notes, but I think the Dolphy will grow on me. The Hancock not so much. Both pressings were really quiet though so that's good. I have a video coming up tomorrow on those two. Thanks again for another great video!

Surfer girl in mono sounds incredible but might also have to pick up a stereo copy at some point.

The Brunswick label used to duplicate songs on different albums in the 70's for their soul artists (Tyrone Davis, Chi-Lites, Barbara Acklin). Hopefully, you'll get a single version or a different mix on one of them. I'm surprised so few people collect singles (12" or 7") as those have the dance or hit mix.

What do think about the mastering and the sound of this ox?
