One doctor in India gave many of her HIV/AIDs patients hope by helping them find partners. More than two million Indians are HIV positive. Many conceal their illness because of the stigma.

Doctor and microbiologist Suniti Solomon was a pioneer in India in the field of HIV and AIDs. She diagnosed the first AIDs cases on the subcontinent among prostitutes in Chennai. But she also made a name for herself because of her matchmaking. She gave new hope to patients who had become isolated because of the social stigma attached to the disease, bringing together countless couples, such as Karthik and Manu. With the doctor’s help, they found each other, a new life, and a new outlook on living with HIV. Suniti Solomon died in 2015.

The grace of this doctor to not attend her patients wedding so as not to make them uncomfortable - there is so much beauty in her!
  • @lmss3309
She was in a service for so long but India awarded her with padmashri after 2 years of her death. it's true that we realize the importance of someone only after they are gone.

Dr Suniti passed away 6 years ago thankfully she was recognised and awarded the Padma Shri. But she'll never be forgotten and I absolutely love the "lovesick" story or Karthik and Manu. I wish them long life and prosperity. I loved this documentary

Remember all these patients willingly came forward and asked for partners in the same boat - a lot of HIV positive people would have kept their diagnosis a secret and ruined lives due to their selfishness. These people are brave and moral, and suffered a bit for it.

The Doctor was A century ahead in thinking and was forward-thinking - wish we have more women like her The world will be a better place

Shame on that man's family who knew their son had HIV and hurried the wedding along, fully understanding that his new wife/their daughter in law is going to get infected with HIV as well... like why?! They knowingly transmitted this disease to her 😡😠 They knew they would consummate their marriage on wedding night and clearly didn't give two sh*ts. That's like knowingly giving someone cancer.... I bet their excuse was, "but.. but... our son has right to marry as well" 🙄

Dr. Suniti deserves an Noble Prize. And this documentary deserves an Oscar.
  • @sinceritydjp
When she said her husband said do whatever you like...that made me cry because it showed how much he loved her and how much he treasured her.
  • @ToucanMurk
She had a lovely marriage, then she guided others to a treasure she no longer possessed. Truly a blessing.
  • The ending was devastating 😢.... heartbreaking to learn she passed away from cancer... she didn't deserve that.... she was doing compassionate things for her people
  • I feel so sorry for Manu. Her family did not press charges on the guy who gave her HIV because yhey wanted to protect the name of the family.

this is the most beautiful love story ever!! ''instead of matching horoscopes we match clinical history''
  • HIV and STD plus general health check should be mandatory before wedding. Indian parents spend money on astrologer amd gold but this is essential too
  • @Noname-yn1qi
A beautiful documentary.. the doctor was such a kind hearted soul.. I hope her legacy is passed on.. I wish the best to the couple ❤️
  • My hats off to this doctor. She deserved the Nobel Peace Prize. What a great love story. There are many people people related to me with AIDS and HIV. It's a blessing to know they can still fall in love get married and have babies.
  • Mano should have filed case against the husband and his family. It is inhumane to not use protection and infect mano knowing he had HIV. Karma should do his job.
  • @tanwar6944
A beautifully written and structured documentary. The idea of saving their face reveals for the ending is genius. I wish more documentaries were this creative.

This made me cry😭, she is one of the great doctor world would ever have again. Where many doctors work for money but just few or it's rare to see such doctors with heartful who treat patients as family other than profession. RIP Dr. Solomon. In a world full of dishonesty we found a gem💎 through DW Documentary. Thank you DW documentary.
