This is [Ind_Inc].mid played back by my work in progress General Midi/GM2/GS/XG Soundfont, OmegaGMGS2. The song is from Donkey Kong Country for Super Nintendo and was composed by S.C.T. It is the song done by Fear Factory and it is one of my favorite songs of the game.

I made this soundfont over the course of over 10 years. It contains 358 instruments, 45 drum kits, and can playback any midi file. It is compatible with:

-General Midi (GM)
-General Midi level 2 (GM2)
-Roland GS (GS)
-Yamaha XG (XG)

A soundfont is a collection of instruments designed to be played back by a midi sequencing program. I comprised this of sounds from other soundfonts, sounds I sampled myself, and instrument samples. What I created was the instruments you hear. I took the best instruments I could make or find and then tuned them and balanced them with the other sounds and drum kits.

Recorded on my Presonus Studiolive 16.0.2 directly to my PC using Audacity. No extra Reverb or FX were added to the sound. Recorded in 16-Bit, 48000 Quality.

  • Here to say that this soundfont is STUNNING. And I thank you for it :)
  • Tip: Change "Donkey Kong Country song" to "Donkey Kong Country: Fear Factory". They will understand the name of the song.

OmegaGMGS2 has just been updated to the latest version. To download, go here www.mediafire.com/download/2as606szvw1pbw8/OmegaGM… Latest Version 3.1 Updated 05/31/2016 Whats New: -Updated Music Box -Updated Rock Organ -Updated Distortion and Overdriven Guitars -Updated String Ensemble -Updated Pan Flute -Updated Saxes (all) -Updated Space Voice -General Balancing Improvements
  • Some of these actually sound better than the samples included in IK Multimedia Sample Tank 3. My main gripe would be the solo strings (e.g fiddle, viola, cello) sound really good whereas the string ensemble (Korg) just pales in comparison. This is why I have orchestral VSTs BUT it might be a missed opportunity? It's really fine work so good job!
  • Excellent work! I just wanted to donate on you're page - but it didn't work with the paypal donate option. adding other donate options such as bitcoin (e.g. coinbase), Webmoney, okpay ) could be an option too.

OmegaGMGS2 has been updated yet again to version 4.0 www.mediafire.com/download/2as606szvw1pbw8/OmegaGM… to download it. I replaced the flute, slap basses, and spent hours completely overhauling the volume balance of the instrument presets. Now the drums are back to being where they should be and everything sounds so much better. Particularly the Risky Woods midi soundtrack sounded bad, but it should be fixed now. If you find issues, please leave a message here and I will try to fix them. I have tested it pretty extensively and no problems found by me thus far.
  • It worked well for dos box (at least in Princess Maker 2)

Love your Soundfont Rick. Works great in the Creative X-fi soundbank. BTW do you think I would be wasting my money to get one of those professional yamaha XG soundfonts?

This soundfound is awesome, best piano of 20 i tried, the only problem is that when the note volume is 55 or less on the grand piano,it is almost inaudible, everytime i record a midi i have to manually change the volume of a lot of notes(50 or less) so i can hear them, can you "fix"(i assume this isn't intentional) the "0:0 grand piano" at the next release?
  • @Rick Simon, this is really great. Thank you for compiling this. Do you have any information about the licensing of this soundfont?

How to use this SF in Windows? I converted to DLS2 format with Awave Studio and replaced it with the gm.dls file. I am trying to play MIDI files using Windows Media Player but there is complete silence and no sound.

Awesome, to me the violin and cello aren't really good for my song, but I can't tell they aren't in general. Every instrument seems very good. Can you help me to choose right soundfont for the opening sound of the song (Apologize - OneRepublic, Album Version)? I have the midi file and can't figure out to make the sound the same like the song
  • Rick, wouyld it be possible to include the Yamaha MU100 exclusive sounds in the next release? Need them badly.

This may be a bit of work for you, but is it possible at all to compress this soundfont to under 64MB or 32MB versions? I would love to use this well balanced soundfont with a DreamBlaster X2 for my MS DOS gaming PC. Of course, for these purposes, 24 bit and lossless samples are not needed. I'm not demanding you do this for me, but I'm curious as to if it could be possible?
