  • im an indiginous first nation woman born in Churchill Manitoba. and if anything Gord Downie is the most passionate eloquent man that i have ever had the privilege of having in my life thru his lyrics and i believe that he is and will be the one being to be a bridge builder for the great country Canada and the aboriginal people across this Native land
  • "super drag" is the biggest understatement in the history of understatements

I was driving down a street and saw a group of people waiting to cross the street. I stopped to let them cross. the last in the group was Gord. he waved to thank me. was when I noticed it was him. was the same day he had his seizure. met him many times. he's a good guy.
  • Man this made me emotional. What a great man. As an indigenous man i forever will respect this man and his family. We need more ppl like him. I felt like ive known him as a friend thru his music. Wish i got to meet him. Ive been a fan since up to here and im still a fan and listening to their music right now. Rip Gord.
  • "Super drag." Even in his last moments he was so humble. He is the definition of "Canadian." Love you Gord!
  • As an Indigenous woman who had family in the Residential School system, thank you for bringing attention to this matter and your kindness. You will always be my favourite Canadian artist. We love you Gord, R.I.P. ❤❤

One of the most powerful and moving interviews I will ever watch. Rest in peace Gord. We won't soon forget you.

Not sure if you'll ever read this Mr. Downie but here goes... I have a son who will be 16 in the new year and who loves music tremendously. I was going to take him to his fist concert featuring the Hip in Bob Caygeon a few years back, but because he was only 10 at the time and the weather was going to be dreadful I didn't want his first concert to be a miserable wet experience making his Hip experience a forgettable one, so I decided to sell our tickets and let the cottage we had rented go. It was a really tough thing to do because not only would have been his first concert it would have been my wife and I's first Hip concert on top of it and we would have experienced you and the boys for the first time together as a family. Flash forward to this year out comes the devastating news for you and all of whom you love and who love you. I was so upset by the news as I lost my brother to the same cancer battle. The worst part of that is I was also battling a rare form of Pneumonia at the time and was in a coma when my brother passed away. I missed his funeral and it was so, so hard to understand when my family told me while they were helping me recover from my own brush with death. Thankfully the CBC had decided to do the broadcast of the final show in Kingston there by helping a family's wish come true to lovingly experience the Hip after all, together. I want you to know that I appreciate what you've given of yourself, in this interview, in your final tour, in all the magical music and stories you've told us through these wonderful years and what you are still managing to do with what strength you have left in your heart and soul, thank you. You my friend are a rare and beautiful human being. I cherish you I love you Kelly

"super drag" That can sum up this entire situation, Gord Downie's warmth, struggle and pain all in two words. No swearing, hyperbole, no need to explain. It is what it is, and it's a drag. I can only hope I at some point acquire even half of the wisdom and perspective this man has. *I also forgot to say thank you. For this interview, for your contributions to music, and for your contributions to Canada and what you're trying to do for the First Nations community.

Gord was dying, he lost his memory, but he still felt lucky. It's amazing he did as well as he did. The doctor who operated on him said he took out a lot of Gord's brain. I think brains can rewire when parts stop functioning. He seems totally lucid here. He had to ask for a question to be repeated, but that happens to me all the time. I've watched this interview a lot of times. He is still eloquent. I find the last part of the interview very touching. And he even jokes. "Is that guy not dead yet?" The doctor said he should have about 4-5 years but it was much less. I think he was diagnosed in Dec 2015, and died less than two years later in Oct 2017. So sad.

What a legend, I saw him several times in the Netherlands in the 80s and 90s, I especially remember a gig in Paradiso Amsterdam, best concert ever.

Wonderful man. "Bridge the gap between indigenous and non indigenous people, build a new country." Well said Gord.

A great man who knew what actually was important in life. He left us with strength, grace, humility. Grateful for the life he had. Can't say enough about his last efforts to help his country come to terms w/ what was done to the country's first people's. So beautiful ,God bless you Gord. Forever man.
  • This hurts so much watching this again right now. RIP Gord, you're amazing and I thank you

As a middle age American, I am saddened that I did not hear this band, prior to seeing that Gord Downie had passed away. The Song "Grace,Too", is an awesome tune! Gord you will be missed on this earthly plain!
  • @sassulusmagnus
He speaks the truth in a very direct and inspiring way. I hope we follow through. Thank you, Gord, for saying what we needed to hear.
  • Being a Dad and being in a rock band. Wow. That’s honest. This is an honest human.

I'm from the UK sort of new of The Hip but embarrassed to say never really knew them, they didn't really have that much exposure in Europe. But since seeing 'Long Time Running' I've completely immersed myself in the music and it's totally brilliant and it is such a human story you can't help be moved by and in awe of the force that was Gord Downie. You a right to feel very proud Canada.
